In loving memory of Luke Alexander Paterson who sadly passed away on 25th May 2021

Lukey Boy was our absolute world, and he always will be.

Luke was born on 3rd January 2007, a seemingly normal healthy little boy. However, it soon became apparent to me that something was not quite right. When he was around 10 weeks old, we were told the devastating news that Luke had severe brain damage with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy, along with other underlying problems. Unbeknown to me until this week, Luke's consultant at Birmingham Childrens Hospital actually gave him 3 months to live when she first examined him at 10 weeks old...……….we had the pleasure of having him with us until he was 14 years old!! He was a true fighter and our absolute hero and his smile could light up any room. Luke could not walk, talk, eat, drink or even hold his own head up or sit up by himself, he was tube fed and he was also blind due to the severity of his brain damage. But he could hear......and he definitely knew the voices of those around him who loved him very much. He loved cuddles and head massages and he would happily lie on the sofa with nanny for hours or let me stand and massage his head til my arms ached, and I would do anything to have those aching arms back now. Luke was a really happy little boy, and even though he had so many problems he never ever moaned, unless he was in pain. At his school, Saxon Hill, and at Acorns Childrens hospital he was adored by everybody and I have been told in the past that staff would often argue at Acorns about who was going to look after Luke, as they all wanted him!! He taught me so much in his short lifetime and for that I will be forever grateful. I feel privileged that I was chosen to be his mommy and his soul will live on in me forever. The only thing that brings me comfort at this time, is the thought that he is now a normal, able-bodied little boy that is running around tormenting his grandad, and that he can do all the things he has never been able to do, and he can see the world for the first time. It was only his body that was broken and he is now outside of that, so for the first time, he is pain free and he is the little boy he should always have been.
