In loving memory of 'Uncle' Jeff who was my Dad's best friend and was part of my extended-family since my birth. I know the Macmillan nurses were a great source of comfort to him in his last days, as they were to my own dad, Simon, before he passed. They do an absolutely wonderful job and I feel such gratitude towards them.
Rest in peace, Jeff, and thanks for all the happy memories.
Much love, Helen, Noah and Florence xxx

I got to know Jeff in his retirement years. We were both drivers of THE ROYAL SCOT steam locomotives at Newby Hall. Jeff loved driving his passengers, both young and not so young, around the colourful gardens at Newby on a warm summers day.
Whilst driving the Toyal Scot at Newby. Both of us arrived on a Sunday morning to prepare the engine for the day. After oiling and lighting the fire of our steed we would complete a circuit of the track connected to the “carriages” . Come September the blackberries were bending their branches with the weight of ripened fruit. We couldn’t just let the blackbirds enjoy all that delicious home grown produce. Jeff and I considered a hot blackberry crumble to be our bonus of dirtying our hands from the coal shovel!
Lovely memories! My deepest condolences to his very loving family. Kind Regards Alan Mitchell
