Demobbed in 1947 he began a long career as Male Nurse at Christchurch Hospital which was at that time a workhouse.
He married Stella ( nee Jepson) in 1952. There followed years of struggle on low wages but much love Stella and George raised a healthy family of four children, Linda, Caroline, Adrian and Gregory. Grandchildren , Stephen, Lindy, Anna, Emma, and Maria followed over the years. Lately, Great Grandchildren Emily, Tom, Beth and Luke who also came to love him for his mild and kind ways.
A natural born career he became famed at Christchurch Hospital as 'George of Ward 3'. Doing Night duty for much of his 42 years service there.
Retired at 62 years he spent his retirement caring for others and, when permitted, enjoying his hobbies of photography and watch making.
The family home was in Turbary Park Avenue. As empty nesters Stella and George moved to live with daughter Linda and family in St Leonards. Finally they moved to West Moors where he was always willing to help out his elderly neighbours
George died at home after a brave struggle; for good health, remaining positive to the end.
He was a mild mannered, caring man who loved his family dearly. He will be sorely missed by his family and all those enumerable people he helped throughout the years.
A true Angel on earth. So long George thank you for all your wonderful love and kindness.
