In loving memory of Retnambal Krishna Rao.
Retnambal was first and foremost a loving, supportive wife to her husband of over 50 years.
She was born and raised in India, meeting her future husband, Krishna, under tragic circumstances. They fell in love and were married within a few years, celebrating that love with the birth of a baby girl, Ranjini. Retnambal’s devotion to Krishna and his work took her all over the world – to Hawaii, California and then later to settle in London where Retnambal also worked as a research technician in prominent universities.
She became a grandmother at the age of 50 and was fortunate to have 3 grandchildren who adored her. She showed her love for them through her food.
Retnambal and Krishna travelled all over the world but never forgot their roots, visiting family and friends in India as often as they could.
When Krishna passed away in 2006, Retnambal’s strength and love for her remaining family grew. She continued to visit India every year, celebrating others’ good fortune.
Retnambal was fortunate to see her youngest granddaughter get married and to meet her great granddaughter.
However, at the age of 88, her health deteriorated rapidly and she sadly passed away in her sleep on 21 February 2021, in the same hospital where her husband had died.
Retnambal was an amazing woman who will be missed by all who knew her. We take comfort in the knowledge that she will be welcomed by lost loved ones and reunited with her husband, which was her only parting wish.
She leaves behind her daughter, 3 grandchildren and her great granddaughter.
A candle lit for you today, Amma, a month since you said your final goodbye. I hope you are not only at peace and resting now but reunited with Bava and having a marvellous time - you are both forever in our thoughts. Yours always, Maya 💕💗💞

But you were slowly slipping away

Your golden heart eventually stopped beating
Your tired body put to rest
HE broke my heart to prove to me
HE only takes the best.
And when that Sunday I saw you in your final sleep,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back,
To neither suffer any longer nor ever again.
To HIS garden you are surely bound,
There to sit with my Bava and the rest of the very best,
