In loving memory of John Stanford, born in Gravesend on 13th September 1939, who sadly passed away on 23rd January 2021

John was the oldest son, born to Arthur (Nobby) and Rose Stanford, along with his two brothers Ron and Albert and four sisters Irene, Barbara, Margret and Sylvia.

After a fantastic childhood, John started his career on the River Thames working on the Tugs, a profession that he continued and enjoyed throughout his working life until he retired. He then spent most of his spare time doing lots of work for the Merchant Navy Association.

John married Rita Gisby on 19th September 1964, after six years of marriage they had a son Mark and then two years later Darren. As a family they spent many happy times together enjoying Holidays abroad and in the UK.

John and Rita enjoyed many holidays and days out together, and also they enjoyed spending time with there children and grandchildren, and was always available for 'baby-sitting'. Even now the grandchildren have grown into young adults, John always enjoyed seeing them.

John enjoy life fully and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Due to COVID restrictions, only a small service is allowed and we request donations to the elloner Hospice for those that wish to do so.

We will always remember John as a really close friend and good neighbour. We were neighbours for many years and John was always happy to give a helping hand whenever needed.
We will always remember the good times we had all together on our many family outings, which were such good fun. We think it’s true to say though that our fondest memories are the many parties we had together over the years, especially the New Year’s Eve parties, when we would all roll home in the early hours of the morning. John would always be making sure we were all ok and all got home safely. John, we will always be grateful to you for that.
John we will miss you, but we will both always cherish the many years of friendship we shared with you and Rita.
Forever in our thoughts John.
With Love Turkmen and Margaret xx
