In loving memory of John Sydney Newton who sadly passed away on 26th January 2021

John was born on the 14th of January, 1925 in Dover and after spending his first year in the village of Selsted moved to Watling Street in Stone and attended the East Central Boys School (now the Brent School) and then the Technical School in Dartford. He was then an apprentice Armature Winder at Gravesend Welding, joining the Navy in 1943 as an Electrical Mechanic, drafted to the Far East Coastal Forces with a motor launch flotilla. He resumed his apprenticeship after the war, but was hospitalised in 1950 where he met Netta, his nurse, whom he married in 1952. They lived in Gravesend and had two children, Philip and Janet. The family moved to Dartford in 1964 where he later became a member of the Brent Methodist Church. John and Netta enjoyed travelling, the highlights being Japan, The Holy Land, Lourdes and Oberammergau. John became a grandfather to four grandchildren: Benjamin, Joseph, Lana and Alison. He retired in 1991 and enjoyed almost thirty years of happy retirement.
