Brian Jones (23 Apr 1935 - 1 Jan 2021)

I met Brian in 1970 as I joined Brands Hatch staff he became both mentor and friend. So many happy memories . Brilliant at his work and precious to me as he dined here and knew my late husband.
One summer we had a meal at Gildersleeves in the conservatory with Norman , Tara my daugher(later Paul Jackson’s wife Isport International) We let
Guinea Pigs rule . As the evening progresses more wine more wine Brian saw flash s if fur crittersWe ignored this in the end when Brian stood up said he was seeing things. Finally we came clean.
Much mourned much missed much loved

It was with great sadness that I learned of the loss of Brian. As a keen spectator I responded to his call in the mid 1980s for a volunteer to help out on race days at Brands Hatch. I never expected to spend the next seven years working closely with him in the old commentary box over the start line straight. It was a great pleasure and privilege to see the Master at work close up.
Brian was very generous by nature and he always found time to talk to people, no matter how busy he was. He treated everybody alike, no matter their background. He had time for everybody.
Whilst working with Brian I often met Ros and Charlotte. I send my sincere condolences to them and the other members of his family.

We are all so much poorer for your leaving but oh so much richer for having known your wonderful friendship. Goodnight, God bless you lovely man. Love to your wonderful family xx

Like many others I remember Brian very fondly. I remember an afternoon interviewing J P as Brian’s guest with great enjoyment though I was not good at the task . With deepest sympathy. Nigel

I knew Brian for a number of years and was delighted to run into him, especially at Brands, whether supporting Britcar events or commentating on my own racing. He was always friendly and cheery and his passing is a great loss to British motorsport.

Rest in peace Brian. You may be gone from sight but you will never leave our hearts. Forever loved and always remembered. Your presence will always be with us.

Dear Brian has been a part of my life ever since I first started racing in a Formula Ford at Brands Hatch and still enjoyed his company more recently having drinks in the BRDC campsite. Back in the day, I'll never forget him acting as Cupid when my then boyfriend Jeremy Gambs and I had split up by announcing over the tannoy to the world at large on Jeremy's behalf "missing you Lori, please come back, all is forgiven!" My sincere condolences to all the family. I will miss you and never forget you Brian, RIP

Growing up I never realised you were quite the household legend that you are. Although I spent many a weekend at Brandshatch with your distinctive voice in the background, my days were spent not appreciating the racing but running up and down the corridors outside with my sisters and Charlotte! I will always remember your low, rumbling laugh and your big bear hugs. Sleep well dear Brian, it was a pleasure and an honour xxx

Apparently Bria had a photo of my Van Dieman RF83 mounting the back of his son Tim’s Royal at Brands Hatch, following on from this event Brian’s normally favourable comments about me stopped and were now then less complementary and I dreaded being at an event at Brands if Brian was commentating! fortunately as the 1984 season started Brian must have had a change of mind and the comments improved and were much better, this was very important as really to me he was Brands Hatch.

A friend of mine Tom Hicks often met Brian in the Rising Sun and scheduled a meet up for March 2020 where I wanted to have a debate about who’s fault the accident was! Unfortunately that Covid got in the way and I could not go, and as I live in Spain I Neve got another opportunity to do this, it will now always be a regret that I could not have chatted to Brian after so long.

Dear Tim & family,

So many wonderful messages and beautiful memories have been shared about Brian over the last few weeks. I remember him as your Dad and an all round gentleman with just the tiniest glint of naughtiness in his gait. My heartfelt love to you my dear friend , together with all the well wishers around the world today, sending you strength and peace as you celebrate today this life of Brian, there I said it - I think he’d smile! , his passions, his hobbies, his family and friends. May he rest in tranquil peace.

Will never forget listening to Brian when working as a photographer at Brands Hatch. I last saw and chatted to him at the Clerk of the Course John Gregory Smith’s funeral in July 2019. Hope they have got together again at the ‘Circuit in the Sky’. Two Brands legends. Rest in Peace Brian
