Uncle Derek was a spectacularly gorgeous human being; he had a way about him that I cannot put into words but everyone who met him felt it and warmed to him in the same way. Funny, kind, generous, caring, loving. He was an inspiration in so many ways; really accomplished at work as an engineer, and it seemed like everything he attempted he excelled at; he had to learn german for work, and learned to speak like a native, a glider pilot, a wood-carver, ... He was a proud Cornishman and loved showing Cornwall to students from all over the world along with his beloved wife, Christine. He will be deeply missed by many many people.
