In loving memory of Brian Alexander Chandler who sadly passed away on 9th December 2020. Born in 1935, a Pre 2nd World War Child, who told many stories of that period in his life, including nights spent in air raid shelters with his mum and sisters.

Born and brought up in the flower roads in Swaythling, a time that was fun and carefree, and up until recently was a place he regularly visited to reminisce.

Early in the 1960's Dad met by chance an attractive student nurse Ann (our mum) who shared a love of music and they spent many evenings at live gigs.

By 1967 Dad was happily married to Ann and was the very proud father of 4 young children, by this time mum was a fully qualified nurse and dad supported the family doing a multitude of different jobs. Shortly he settled into driving HGV vehicles, a job that he loved, which enabled them by the early 80's to purchase their council house, another very proud moment in their lives, so much so that dad lived happily there until his sad recent passing.

Throughout the 60,s and 70's he continued with his love of music by playing in a band as a drummer and these created many fond memories as children as we would often accompany dad to gigs.

Throughout our childhood mum and dad worked very hard to provide a very stable and loving environment, however this did mean often that mum worked nights as dad was tending to us kids and vice versa. This however enabled them to provide us with fun family holidays, which we all remember and cherish.

By the late 80's and throughout the 90's and beyond a different chapter in dad's life began with the arrival of 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, all of whom he cherished and was extremely proud of.

Dad was fiercely independent even up to 30th November this year when he sadly got admitted to hospital.

For all that knew Dad, will know how precious family was to him and he lived feeling honoured that family had filled such a large portion of his life.

Dad you were the most wonderful, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. We will always love and miss you, forever in our hearts.

Finally at peace with mum.

So many happy memories it's difficult to know where to start. You weren't just a grandad, you were so much more than that. When Mum or Dad couldn't get me to football, you were there. When us kids needed picking up from school, you were there. Summer holidays, afternoon's after school, Sunday evenings at mums bringing round stashes of cereal bars. You were and always will be a huge part of my life, your smile and laughter will live with me forever. I hope you can read this Grandad because I never told you how special you were. Give Nan a hug from me x

Dad you were just the best dad to all of us. You devoted your whole life to us and taught us all some very strong family values. You were always so proud that we were and still are a very strong family unit and always will be.
Although you have gone to be with mum you will be forever in our hearts. We all miss you so very much.

xxxxxx

Brian,
there are many attributes that could be credited to you, but those that I will always associate with yourself from the time I was fortunate enough to know you, is your total affection for your family, and theirs' for you - which said everything about you.
Also, and importantly, your sense of fun - always preferring a smile to a frown!! A great influence on all those round you.
You'll be sorely missed Brian, but definitely time to take a rest....
Dave

Will miss you grandad. You were such an inspiration to everyone. Your fun, laughter and comedy has made me who I am today and I will carry on taking on your role of making people laugh. I will never forget watching countdown after school every Thursday, your love for mango chutney that went on everything you ate. And getting me to pull your finger every time you had to let one rip. (I do the same to your great grand children now.) Rest in peace Grandad.

To my lovely Grandad,

You really did have the kindest soul & I’m so grateful to have many memories with you and Nan. We spent so many summer holidays having you run off your feet I’m sure & every Thursday after school too!! Pizza Fingers or from the Chip shop. Soon enough we was all grown up and we upgraded to one of your favourites a trip to the carvery. If there is one thing I probably didn’t realise I’d learnt from you is the love of animals, not just the cute fluffy ones but all things big or small. So many times I remember you’d be so cross if anyone squashed a spider or done anything remotely mean to an animal, now I find myself like that. I think I could write tons but if I could speak to you right now I would tell you what a fantastic grandad you was & how loved you was & always will be. ❤️
