Diana Torkington (7 Jan 1936 - 15 Jul 2020)

A lovely lady. She asked me to do a talk on drugs and young people to her Newbury division and fully supported me against some appalling behaviour from a number of her officers. I remember her buying me a coffee in the police canteen after and complemented me on the very direct way I had dealt with the behaviour. I thought she was going to give me a right ticking off as a rather green 27 year old in something of a bear pit. Far from it, I remember her telling me I had dealt with it extremely well and a few officers, mainly in plain clothes, would be spoken to. I could hardly hold my cup. My condolences to the family

You are at peace now with no more pain and probably sorting out some golf up there already.

Diana, so many happy times. We were Captain &Vice Captain together in 1997, then when we both had to give up golf because of poor health. We then toured garden centres dreaming what might be, but just having lunch instead. I will miss you. Mal x

Diana and I met many years ago, through our shared love of golf. She was a well valued and dedicated member of our Ladies section, being the Handicap Secretary for many years, and took on committee responsibilites as well as the Captaincy. After ill-health forced her to stop playing the game Diana continued to support our secction at our big events. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Lady Captain, Blankney Golf Club
