In loving memory of Mrs Jean Bell, aged 75, of Addingham, Ilkley, who sadly passed away on 20th July 2020 at Manorlands, Oxenhope, following a valiant struggle with cancer. Jean was born to the late Alice and George Imeson on 26 August 1944 joining a brother, the late Donald. She flourished in the Bradford environment, “a decent mix of city and fresh air”, graduated Buttershaw Comprehensive School and started a family. She developed a passion for walking, taking every opportunity she could to explore the Dales she loved so much and other beauty spots all over the world. Jean had a varied career and eventually found her way to the NHS, working for many years in the Ambulance and Patient Transport Services Division. She married the late Monte Bell in 1998, adding Jan and the late Garry to her family and home life.
Jean is survived by her son, Philip Hall (married to Lucille), her younger sister, Carol (widow of the late John Firth), her daughter by choice, Jan (married to Bassam), her twin grandchildren, Hana and Sami, and by Stanley Hall (the father of her son Philip). Jean’s extended circle includes Tony and Maureen Imeson and their family in Australia. As well as Jean’s dear friend Ann who was at her side as she passed, she treasured many friendships across several continents (too many to list here!). After all is said and done, our friends are the family we choose.

A lovely lady and a very special friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. With her quick wit and ready smile she spread happiness and laughter wherever she went. The world is a sadder place without her.

Jean was a very dear friend. For me she lit up a room, was an absolute joy to be with and I always felt refreshed and invigorated having been in her company.
Her friendship with Tony was something very special, they had the same sense of humour and incessantly sparked off one another. My abiding memory of the two of them was during lockdown when she returned his phone call as he was kneeing down weeding the garden. There he was, phone in one hand and gardening fork in the other chatting away for ages, gales of laughter ringing out.
How we will miss her.

Quick witted, Jean could always raise a laugh - often at her own expense. She had a love of life and, remarkably, even found the energy to enjoy it throughout much of her illness. She was such fun to be around, and will be sadly missed.

You will be missed by so many people particularly amongst the walking fraternity and in our small group of walkers. On behalf of John and Barbara Sykes and Ann Durgan who for various reasons are unable to access this site they send their condolences. From Yvonne and myself our thoughts are with Jean's family at this sad time and it has been a privilege to know you. Love John and Yvonne Scott. RIP

We knew Jean for many years. We met at Yorkshire Ambulance Service and our fondest memories are at parties where Jean would nibble on a lettuce leaf with a glass of non alcoholic wine ! She always looked after herself in a way most of us don’t but sadly she has gone too soon.
RIP Jean. Xxx

  • Really sorry for your loss Phil - don't know why but I always remember fig rolls in a little wooden biscuit barrel at your home in Wibsey - a long time ago - keep yourself well and safe - Andy Nicoll
