BEVERLIE WELLESLEY-MILLER passed away peacefully on Sunday 12th July 2020 at Louth County Hospital, aged 82 years.

The Funeral took place on the 4th August at 11 am at The Greek Orthodox Church of St Basil & St Paisios in Lincoln followed by burial in Louth.

Beverlie aka Smithers was the much loved and treasured mother of Rebecca and Piers, loving sister of Ruth, devoted grandmother of Theadora and Raphael and cherished Aunt and Great-Aunt.

Beverlie grew up in Essex and studied at Hornsey Art College and the Open University. She was a teacher at both the primary and high school levels having also enjoyed brief flirtations with nursing, missionary work, filmmaking, the civil service and publishing. Always a bit of a rebel she hitchhiked around Europe in the mid-Fifties and learnt to ride a motorbike when she was 40 yrs old. She could converse in French and German and on retirement furthered her artistic talents with O levels in Latin, Greek, Italian and the ABRSM exams in piano. Religion was an important part of Beverlie’s life and she was a member of the Orthodox Churches in Louth and Lincoln. Her pursuits were varied… reading, music, gardening, films and travel to the US, Italy and Greece. Beverlie was a prolific letter writer and indeed was a throwback to a time when letter writing was considered an art form.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was happy to just enjoy lively conversation over a (good) glass of wine. Cheers Smithers!

Alas I didn't meet the person that gave me such a dear friend, Piers. Beverly, you were clearly an inspirational lady, and I raise my glass to you.
