On 20th May, Dorothy, aged 88 years, formerly of Baildon, slipped away peacefully at the Raikes, Silsden. Widow of William and a much loved mum, grandma, great grandma, mother-in-law and auntie.
You may know that Dorothy had Alzheimer’s dementia, a terrible disease that progressively takes a little bit at a time of the person you love.
If you would like to leave a message about Dorothy and how you know her we, as a family, would be very grateful.
As we are unable to have the funeral we would have liked, this page is a way for you to remember her. If you would like to donate in her memory we have chosen Alzheimer’s Society and you can make a donation via this site.

As a senior carer at the Raikes it was an absolute pleasure knowing Dorothy she was such a great lady with a fab Sence of humour and kept us staff on our toes. My lovely mum. So kind and thoughtful, caring and supportive. My parents worked very hard to provide a family home and a lovely childhood for me. They were always there for me, and mum continued to be my rock after dad passed away. It’s comforting to see how fondly she is being remembered. My lovely, funny mum xx

Dorothy was very much a part of my childhood, working at the Office where I spent so much time whilst Dad made just "one more phone call." I remember her as an ever smiling face and a bastion of common sense compared to the actual Kassapian's! I am so sorry for your loss and all the family's thoughts are with you at this time.

I am so sorry to hear that Dorothy has passed away. Thank you for writing to let me know.
I first got to know your Mum around 40 years ago when I worked at Kassapians. I remember her as a tall, elegant lady with immaculate hair, a warm friendly smile and a twinkle in her eyes. I had young children and Dorothy was always happy to give me advice if I had any problems.
We kept in touch and when I moved to Devon it was always a pleasure to receive her Christmas card as there would also be a long letter. She would keep me updated on her outings, her golf and her exciting trip to see the tennis at Wimbledon with you, Judith. She took me through every stage of her grandsons' progress through to marriage and great grandchildren. She was obviously very proud of you all.

I was a child when Dorothy worked at Kassapian’s. I always remember her lovely smiling face and how kind she was us to children when we visited the office with our Dads. Dorothy used to measure all our heights against the safe door so we could see how much we had grown and compete who was the tallest. Dorothy always let me have a go on the typewriter, putting in fresh pieces of paper for each of my attempts at letter writing. Now with hindsight, I wonder if our visits were a welcome distraction or an interruption of her busy day – whichever it was, she smiled her way through it!
Our Mum, Anne, also remembers Dorothy very fondly and as did our Dad, Garry and it was always a pleasure in subsequent years when we saw Dorothy at functions or around Bradford to see her smile and have the happy memories.

For many years Dorothy worked at Kassapians Baildon , she was always a smiling face and had a friendly greeting for everyone whether on the phone or in person . She measured the heights of all the Kassapian children and marked them on the big safe door !

I first met Dorothy at the Bradford Royal Infirmary where we were volunteer “guides” at the main entrance.
Dorothy was a lovely lady, always spick and span with a happy and friendly personality.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I know mum held you all in high regard and really enjoyed working at Kassapians. She walked to the office come rain sleet or snow and spent many years in the company of good friends and colleagues. She loved it when your children came in. I know you called her ‘Miss Dorothy’ and that amused her....and me!

Very fond memories of Dorothy, I used to trim her hair when my children were small. I was a hairdresser and Dorothy came to my house, she used to read stories to our daughter and made us all laugh. Later in time she walked or should I say a fast walk past our house and always stopped for a chat and always asked about our children.
She was always so smart too, don’t think I ever saw her in dark colours.

Many years ago now I went to school with Dorothys daughter Judith. It was always good to see Dorothy out walking, or marching, as I remember ! She never seemed to have a slower pace even as she got older! She had a lovely smile and was always smart.
She will be greatly missed and I send my condolences and love to her family.

We at The Raikes Home are missing Dorothy and her beautiful smile so much, She came to our home in July 2019 and settled in so well, we grew very attached to her and have some good memories of all her moments. W are also missing her family especially Judith. We will never forget our Dorothy xxx

I was a bridesmaid at her and uncle Harry’s wedding. I can remember the little house they first lived in and remember being told that they were having a baby our Judith .
She was a smashing auntie always caring and interested in what I’d been up to .

Dorothy, Auntie Dorothy to me was my mum Betty’s sister. She was a lovely auntie and I have lots of special memories of growing up going to Baildon to visit her and uncle Harry and Judith.
Boxing Days were special in our house as auntie Dorothy was coming. It was the only day dad would wear a posh jumper because Auntie Dorothy was coming ! Even after uncle Harry had died she still came all the way over every year. When she couldn’t drive anymore Judith brought her which was lovely. my husband Geoff and sons Daniel and Thomas loved to see her and she was always interested in what they had been doing.
Mum and Dorothy loved to catch up with other. Mum loved her sister very much.
A special sister to mum and Auntie to me who will always be remembered with love.

As a Kitchen Assistant at The Raikes Care home. I would like to send my sincere condolences to Dorothy’s family. Having worked at The Raikes since October 2019, I grew to know Dorothy very well. She was a wonderful lady. We laughed together at times. She was grumpy at times but we always overcame that. I will miss her so much. Dorothy you will always be in my heart.
