Chris and I have many fond memories of Carl. It was back in the mid 70’s when Thursday Club for 11-14’s started at the Meths and Alan remembers Carl’s enthusiasm to reach out to these youngsters. He was always keen to show his skill at table tennis and share his special humour. Alan and he would love to foil off each other with their pun exchanges - something that continued throughout over 40yrs of friendship.
Alan recalls those days on the tennis court in Capel when Carl would appear wearing more neoprene supports than the Michelin Man. They however did their job in holding the body together to ensure he (and Di) were always competitive. Great memories. He also made a very a good Roman Soldier in the village Passion Play. Passion is something that sums up Carl. Whether it was Dianne, Jayne, Kevin, Daniel, the extended family and grandchildren or his own personal faith, Carl loved and spoke about them all with a deep passion.
It was a very sad and tearful day in our household when we learnt that Carl had died but we rejoice in the knowledge he has now entered the eternal life he was always so assured of.
Carl was always fun to be with and will be much missed.

I remember Carl as a kind, gentle, thoughtful man. He was always interested in what others were doing and often asked about my family. His strong faith was very important to him and I always appreciated his preaching in the early days of knowing him. He was very proud of his family and I will always remember the joy on his face as he shared about the baptism of his grandson Lewis. He will be greatly missed by our church fellowship. Rest in peace Carl.

Carl had a lovely smile and his faith shone through. His knowledge and understanding of the Bible was much appreciated by the home group. A special moment for him and us was sharing with the church family about his grandson's baptism. Andrew and Carol

I knew Carl as a gracious, gentle and kind man with a great sense of humour, a strong faith in his Lord Jesus and enjoyment of singing. He is surely now singing round the Throne in Glory.
We will miss you very much Carl but we praise God for your life and for His promise that we will meet you again, with Him.
What a beautiful service it was for Carl, with such inspiring words from Lewis (so encouraging for all of us who pray for our grandchildren).
Thank you Dianne that we could share it with you and your family. With love and prayers for you in your sorrow.

Carl and I had many good conversations at the allotment site, in church and elsewhere. He would always start off by asking how my boys were doing and then he would usually start with "what do you think about …….." and then the topic would range from sport, politics, faith and lots more. He was a GOOD man who will be sorely missed. Bless you for your friendship and your faithfulness. Jim

Carl was always there with a happy smile and interested in what was going on in the lives of church family members. We enjoyed his jokes and puns and he sometimes sent funny stories by email. We always think of Carl and Dianne together and their obvious pride and pleasure in their close-knit family. A recent happy memory was seeing Carl appear at the front of church to tell us, with a beaming smile, about the blessing of seeing Lewis Baptised.
We enjoyed the company of Carl and Dianne on a trip to India, especially sharing a rice boat! On this trip we saw Carl’s kindness and generosity in action. He was keen to understand what the challenges were for the families in the slums and genuinely enjoyed entertaining the children. He was always handing out little gifts from his unending supply! and couldn’t help responding to the very needy people he met on the streets. Carl will be sorely missed by everyone as the testimonies on this site confirm, but it is comforting to know how assured he was of where he was going; Praise the Lord that he is now with his heavenly Father. Thank you Carl for being you. We pray especially for Dianne and the family in the coming days.

Carl will be sorely missed by the church family. A kind, gentle man, he always had a cheery smile. We appreciated his sense of humour even when discussing the fortunes of Ipswich Town! With Dianne he was a staunch supporter of NewDawn and was always keen to know how his sponsored child was doing. It was a privilege to know Carl. We will remember him with fondness. Rest in peace Carl.

In fondest memory of Carl, more brother to us than brother-in-law. If every man in this world had Carl's characteristics, it would be a wonderful place in which to live. He was decent, gentle, loyal, funny and so kind. We will always remember the fun times at the Warner weekends and particularly our tennis matches. We shall miss him so much now that he is no longer with us but we rejoice that he is finally in his Eternal Home. Rest in peace dear Carl.

I have been working out how long I have known Carl and it is over 46 years. Carl has been a much loved member of Capel Methodist Church all that time and it was always good to hear him read or pray in church. He had a strong speaking and singing voice . I remember him being very touched at our first ever Sizewell away weekend which I think was 44 years ago. I shall miss his friendly and gentle manner and his sense of humour. He loved his family and was so proud of them. A life well lived and he died with faith in His Heavenly Father.

When I think of Carl, I think of a lovely man, kind, genuine and interesting to chat to. I remember when I first got to know him, other than as a member of our Church, during a trip to India. Witnessing the love that Carl showed to the children from the poorest communities was extremely moving.
I will miss his smile and his wisdom. Thank you, Carl.

Carl was a great encouragement to me over the past seven years that I have been running the R.O.M.E.O. Men's Lunch Group in Capel. A loyal member over the years, he was always ready to assist with transport and to help pack away tables after our meal. Faithful too in worship, he was quick to share a smile and an encouraging word after the service. I shall miss Carl's friendship and support greatly when normal life is resumed. I thank God for having known him.

I shall miss Carl for many reasons, not least of which were the funny emails he used to send me, forwarding messages received from family members and friends. They used to send into tucks of laughter. I enjoyed his company at a good many ROMEO lunches, where we discussed all manner of stuff, usually controversial Christian topics.
He was a great guy and a great friend. I thank ~God for him.

Carl was a quiet man with strong principles of fairness. I recall him writing strongly to me in my official capacity when he perceived an apparent injustice. He was until arthritis made it difficult, a ke en allotment member, and we often spoke there. I will remember him fondly as a faithful member of the Capel Singers, ever present in the tenor line, and receiving with good humour the directors outspoken criticism when attempting difficult carols. We came from different congregations, but his loss will be felt at St Mary’s as it certainly will be at the Methodist Church. Rest in peace Carl and rise in glory.
