Absolutely devastated. Jim was one of lifes good guys and made time for everyone. Will miss driving past him and getting a big cheery wave everytime. My heart breaks for his family. Parkgrove wont be the same without him. You will be missed by everyone.

Jimmy, just organising us when the SRU chucked Murrayfield Wanderers out of our clubhouse within Murrayfield. He kept the club open and alive during that period.

Jimmy epitomised what rugby clubs are about. He just did what needed to be done; he showed the effort, commitment and willingness that all clubs need to exist. If you wanted a job done, one just knew that Jimmy could solve it and get things done. Bar operations, plumbing, locks, electrical faults, painting, carpets, .... the list was endless.

Of course, he had been a committed player. But he then transitioned to keeping the club going off the pitch, in order that others could enjoy what he had enjoyed.

Murrayfield Wanderers is worse off without him; he will be missed by the club and by me. But his example will remain with us.

Condolences and thoughts are with Karen and family.

  • What a great tribute! I found myself thinking of Jim tonight and nine months after his death I sought out his obituaries. I worked with Jim. He was more than a rugby coach. He was (unknowingly) a life coach! Jim taught me to calm myself down and to approach problems with an attitude of conciliation rather than confrontation. There are another million reasons why I love and miss him. He was also a great cook and easily the funniest man I have ever had the pleasure to work beside. In a

Simply the best son-in-law ever. Over the years Jim has taken over all and everything we needed done. DIY, plumbing, central heating, decorating, to name but a few! He was always ready to help us, as he was with many others. Known for his kindness and willingness and generosity. Never to be forgotten.
With Love Always,
June & Bob xx

Karen, Jim was a real gentleman to me and the rest of the Touch section when our paths crossed. He always had time to chat and gently take the mickey out of me whenever I saw him. He will be a sad loss to us all and we are thinking of you, Thomas and Samantha at this sad time. I will raise a glass to his memory tonight.

Jimmy was always a great help to the Gentlemen’s Dining Club around the time of our big carol singing night. One afternoon, I turned up at the Club expecting to set up tables for 110 carol singers only to find that Jimmy had beaten me to it. To me, this summed him up – always happy to roll up his sleeves and to do someone a good turn. I wish I had more time to get to know him better. It’s guys like him that make a rugby club.

Karen, Thomas and Samantha, Jimmy will be missed by so many, including me. He was a good friend and an all round great guy - rugby, coaching, bar convenor and could fix or build anything. He would always go that extra mile to help others and nothing was ever too much trouble. Slange Jimmy!
