Grandad - How privileged I am to have had you in mine and my families life. A man full of love and humour. Who always greeted you with a smile and a shake of the hand. ‘It’s great to see you’ he’d say. Every single time. Grandad was always full of stories (usual the same ones), I must have heard the one about the watch being stolen while he was an MP a hundred times but it made me smile every time he told... even more so when he started reciting it to Charlie. My earliest memories are of Grandad the quiz master, every Christmas we would play Trivial Pursuit with the whole family around... I was amazed as Grandad nailed question after question... it wasn’t until I got older that I realised he knew every answer like the back of hand from the amount of times he’d played it.
Grandad always had time for you, time to listen... he’d take me and Dan fishing all over the place when we were young. I always got to ride in the front as I was the oldest, usually with a bag of maggots between my legs. When we got there Grandad would always set us up first and then again within about 5 minutes of us snagging it on the reeds or in a tree. (Once a duck!) ‘What the bloody hell you caught that on’.
I’ve got lots of great memories and stories that will never leave me... but the words I remember the most at this time are the ones from his final years... he would say ‘I’ve had brilliant life, I loved my life’.

So sorry to hear of the passing of such a beautiful gentleman. I feel like I have known you a lifetime Alf. You always had a smile on your face whenever I saw you and gave ‘that’ hug. Sincere and warm. Thank you for letting me be part of your loving family. Barbara , Dawn and family. I can’t imagine how you must be feeling right now. I’ll always be here for you. God Bless Alf . You will be missed and loved forever 🙏🏽

To Gramps.

I have some fond memories of you growing up. I remember always coming round on a Friday night and often for lunch on a Sunday where you would tell me about your past time stories. One I heard several times but always funny was when you were on compulsory service and told to go and get your hair cut by an officer. You said you stood round the corner for 5 minutes and came back the same, and he told you it looked much better. I will always remember you with the contents of whatever fruit you had eaten that day down your top, sitting in the armchair with a good book on the go or, watching the horses. We had some good fishing trips growing up and you always caught the big fish. You were such a humble well liked man and I never heard a bad word come out of your mouth. I hope you are at peace now on a big pond catching plenty of fish. RIP gramps. Love phil x

Always remember the fun times. Particularly when I was around 4, U Alf eating my goldfish. If you don’t know the story he had actually replaced the goldfish with a carrot cut to shape. Ever the joker.
He was at his best when playing tricks on us unsuspecting kids and that’s how I will always remember him.

Rest In Peace Uncle Alf cannot image the practical jokes you and Uncle Bill are getting up to now you are re-United. Heaven will be a lot more fun with the both of you.

A lovely family friend many happy memories

I have many fond memories of Alf, including the camping trips that we used to go on with him, Barb and the children.
Alf and Barb always went earlier than Bill and I, and the best of the weather always seemed to occur before our arrival. Alf always used to say that “we took the rain with us”. The one time there had been so much rain that we had to push the car out of the mud. That was the day Alf told us weren’t invited again. Of course he didn’t mean it… until the next time when he would repeat it again!
Alf was not just a lovely brother-in-law to me, or a wonderful brother to Bill, he was our best friend, our fishing and camping mate, and Bill’s work mate too.
Thanks for all of the lovely memories Alf. You will be sorely missed.

Throughout the summers of my childhood, Mum and Dad would go fishing with Uncle Alf, Aunt Barb and my cousins every Sunday when the weather was good.
When I reached my teenage years, I started to stay at home which meant I was still in bed when Aunt Barb and Uncle Alf came. Big mistake! Uncle Alf would run up the stairs with a cup of water in his hand, shout to me “what time do you call this?” and proceed to flick water all over my face. Hiding under the duvet was no use… it was pulled off! After all the pandemonium and a hi-jacked lie-in, he would then say “You’re beautiful” which made my awakening a little more worthwhile.
Good night, God bless Uncle Alf, you were a lovely, funny and kind man who gave us so many happy childhood memories.

Dad
When I think of you I can't help but smile for all the happy memories we have of you. You were kind, loving, caring and funny. All the things anyone would want in a dad. You were great with the grandchildren and great grandchildren too and Chris and Dan will always have fond memories of when you used to take them fishing and then argue over who caught the biggest and the most fish. Friends have said to me "we loved your dad" and the nurses in the hospital too. When I think of you I feel immense pride for the person you were. So proud to say you were my dad, our dad. I'm sorry I wasn't there to hold your hand dad or to say my last goodbye but I will always remember your warm and sunny smile that would brighten up the dullest grey day. Love you always dad Rin tin tin. xxxx
