Stella Edna Rendell (23 May 1927 - 10 Feb 2020)

Dear Stella,
What a lovely woman you were. Sid and I have so many wonderful memories of our times together with you and Irene (Sid’s Mum) whenever we came over to England to visit; welcoming us with open arms to your lovely home at 37 Hambrook Road, South Norwood. We loved all the scrabble games, helping with crosswords, good conversations and the fun and laughter with all the bantering back and forth between you, Irene and Sid!
You were like an older sister to both Sid and Iris. Growing up as little children, living with you during
those turbulent war years must have brought a lot of comfort with your loving eyes watching over them.
I enjoyed all our trips out and about, seeing London, the south coast and all the parks and gardens we explored. You especially loved Norwood Lake and remember Sid and I pushing you and Irene in your wheelchairs around it, on that beautiful warm sunny September day before we left to fly back to Perth.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to your dear children and grandchildren during this difficult time.

Dear Stella,
What a wonderful lady you were.
You and Sid’s Mum (your sister Irene) were an absolute joy to be with when we used to come over to England, welcoming us into your home; 37 Hambrook Road, South Norwood was like a home away from home for Sid and I.
Sid said it was his second home and first memory of a home as he lived there from age of two, through the war years and all through the bombings. Sid remembers walking up Cromer Road holding Stella’s hand, as she showed him the destruction of Sunny Bank after the V2 bomb hit there. Stella was like a big sister to Sid and Iris.
We have so many wonderful memories of our scrabble games, helping with crosswords, meals and good conversations and laughs sitting your little lounge room. I loved the trips out and about together around London and down to the South Coast to Eastbourne, Brighton and those wonderful days at Hever Castle and gardens, Kew Gardens and all the other gardens we explored ... you especially loved Norwood Lake, Sid and I enjoyed pushing you and Irene around there in your wheelchairs, the last time was a beautiful sunny warm September day .. our last outing together (for me) before leaving to return home to Australia.
I look forward to the Resurrection when we will all be together again, what a wonderful day that will be!!

My Favourite Aunt Stella,
We always had a laugh together, we always enjoyed our trips out together when we came over to England.
In the later years you you suffered a lot from illness but you are at peace now Stella, no more pain.
You will be sadly missed by us all we loved you to bits,, RIP Stella.

Sorry I can’t be at your mum’s funeral but I’ll be thinking of you on Monday, David. She was a very special person and certainly had a long and good life. Loving thoughts to you,Gary and the family Jill xx

Stella, my Aunt, my Friend and the Sister I never had. How I miss you, your great sense of humour, and the laughs we had on the phone and when ever I was able to visit. Then of course there was scrabble!! Losing you is the end of a generation that we were part of. Dear Stella I will think of you so many times with a smile, even the last time we spoke we had a laugh, you as always were still interested in my life, that is how it was between us.

Dear Stella was part of my early 20s. She allowed me to treat her home as my own and I enjoyed many a conversation with her in the kitchen. I can hear her voice now as she gave me her opinion in a very firm manner. How she put up with me I will never know. She was a very clever lady and, had she lived in another age, would have been a high flyer in whatever she chose to do. Goodnight Stella. Love Janice xx

I will always remember your kindness, Stella, the hearty meals you made for me back in the 80's, the fun (mayhem?) family evenings out that you (unwisely?) invited me along to at posh restaurants in Crystal Palace, the many outings to the coast with David more recently and of course your reassuring support when my Mum died. It was very hard for you Stella and your familiy towards the end but you were all extremely brave. Lots to remember you for Stella just as there was,and is, for Ben too, and it would be nice to think perhaps you could now both be finally reunited.

I cannot express how sad I am to hear of my favourite auntie's passing. I have so many fun memories of her as I was growing up and who can forget her beautiful singing voice. RIP Auntie Stella, you are so loved. My sincerest condolences to David, Gary and family.
