  • Since around the late 1980's Audrey became a good friend of mine.Originally I met her through her sewing and alterations .Her dear husband Rowland was such a lovely man always ready to have a chat. It was after Rowland passing that Audrey became much closer and I tried to support her through her loss. Around 1995 Audrey and I were confirmed and worshiped at St. Saviour's Church together, she felt that her faith was keeping her strong, but she was missing Rowland. We belonged the Mother's Union together and I remember having lovely days out with them. One was at the Archbishop of York's palace, it was situated next to the river where there were boat trips. I remember Audrey waving to the passing boats out of the window. She attended St Saviours until round 2000 it was then I moved to Wakefield and she was sad that it was difficult to get to church then. Some years later Audrey's beloved and only child, her son John was diagnosed and died within 3 months from cancer. I was astonished at her courage and how she coped with her loss. She was so brave in the was she dealt with grief. She said.

Paul Cadman donated £20 in memory of Audrey

Audrey Armitage was my aunt for over 60 years. As a kid I used to stop at her house on many occasions and with my uncle, his mother and Audrey's son John, I had many happy times, Audrey will be very much missed by me, her nephew Paul Cadman.
