In loving memory of George William Kerr who passed away on Friday 25th October 2019, aged 87 years. Beloved father to Andrew, Fiona, Gordon, Nicola, Bruce and the late Jessica.

Born in 1932 George led a long and happy life. He was only 14 when he left school and started working as a page boy in the old waverley hotel. in 1947 he joined the Royal Navy and attained the rank of leading seaman and served aboard the HMS Ocean(R68), he was very proud of this part of his life and would love to walk down memory lane and tell stories of how hard it was to plot radar and how nowadays itโ€™s all computerised.

After the navy he began his career as a salesman first in Wwillerbys as a tailor and suit salesman before moving to Bielefeld in Germany, where he settled down and began his family and Kerr Motors where Andy would hide out instead of going to school. Fiona and Gordon soon followed Andy and they would enjoy summer holidays to Scotland as children. When Vauxhall could no longer provide the cars to keep his business running he took it on the chin and moved on to sell cars with Mercedes Benz and had Jessica. Sadly George experienced profound loss when Jessica passed at a very early age and uprooted to return home to Edinburgh and be with his Family where Jessica would be laid to rest in 1985. He applied his skills in car sales as soon as he arrived working for Alexander Fords in Fountainbridge, sadly he suffered a heart attack at this time and work was difficult to come by afterward, though that didn't stop him trying several new ventures before his eventual retirement. He went on to study as a mature student, studying Drama at Telford college, a topic he loved and even featured in a student film which was shown on Channel 4, Meanwhile his son Bruce was born. George used his retirement to spend time with his family, Raising his young son and passing on the familial passion for cars. He welcomed his stepdaughter Nicola as his own, and cared tirelessly for his unwell sister Mabel until her passing.

George was an accomplished man but first and foremost, a family man and a true friend to many, he would do anything to help anyone he could. At 87 he still boasted a wealth of independence, collecting his papers every morning and delivering his neighbours' while he was at it. A true gentleman.

Family and friends are welcomed to celebrate his life at Mortonhall main chapel on the 2nd of December 2019 at 1pm, with burial schedule at 2pm. Our Father would have loved even more if you join us at Liberton Golf Club around 3pm where you're invited to share in drinks (or drams) and trade dad's greatest currency. STORIES!
