In loving memory of Frederick Alan Butler who sadly passed away on 7th November 2019. Fred (Alan) Butler was born in Northallerton Yorkshire in June 1941. He spent he's childhood in Bexleyheath with his parents parents Ivy and Fred and his younger Brother David. It was a happy childhood, he started school with Dellia Smith and although he passed the 11 plus to got to Grammar school didn't quite manage to secure a place. He did however secure a place for technical college were he got his O'level's he had many happy memories of being in the sea scouts (although he never learnt to swim). After school he worked at the post office but spent as much free time as he could youth hosteling with the Dartford group, cycling hundreds of miles at the weekends, hitchhiking, rambling and collecting a lamp post on a pushbike. For a while he was also a warden for the Youth hosteling Association in the Lake District which always remained one of his favourite places. In time he met Margaret and that got Married in July 1971. They had 3 children Angela, Martyn and Phillip.
During this time he was a milkman in the Kettering area and would cycle to and from work everyday.
He shared his love of youth hosteling with his 3 children and after his and Margaret's 25th Wedding anniversary they had many adventures abroad. Including trips to New Zealand, Australia and America to visit friends. He also had a keen interest in Genealogy and found many lost relatives. In time his Children had their own families and he had 6 Grandchildren, James, Mia, Edward, William, Polly and Faye.
His larger than life character will be missed by us all. As a family we would like to thank Macmillan nurses and Especially the staff at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice for the care he received in the last few weeks.
The family would like to invite you to attend the Funeral and reception afterwards at the Black Bear in Walsoken. Please avoid black as bright colours were Fred's favourite and his wish.
