In loving memory of Michael James Francis Hyland who sadly passed away on 14th September 2019.

We hope to welcome many of Mike's (or Mick back home in Ireland) friends and family to celebrate his life on 1st October. As he would say - 'wear whatever makes you comfortable' and be ready to raise a glass to a life well lived.

Instead of flowers, we prefer donations to St Christopher's Hospice in memory of Mike.

Gary Davies donated £76 in memory of Michael

A couple of days ago I was saddened to hear of the passing of my good friend and former work colleague Mike Hyland.
One of the nicest, most genuine people you could wish to meet, a fountain of knowledge and wisdom with whom you just sat and listened to.
My sincere belated condolences to his wife and family, who he adored and his children he was immensely proud of.
I was lucky enough to know Mike over 20 years and I can only thank him for his time and company I shared on many occasions.

Rest In Peace Dear Friend
God Bless You
Gary Davies

Deepest sympathy to Mickey's family and friends. As a young fellow he was one of my first sporting heroes - what a footballer he was. The memories of a young fella from the power station field will never diminish.

Mise Raifteirí an File

Mise Raifteirí an file,
Lán dóchas is grá,
Le súile gan solas,
Le ciúnas gan chrá.

‘Dul siar ar m’aistear
Le solas mo chroí
Fann agus tuirseach
Go deireadh mo shlí.

Féach anois mé
Is mo chúl le balla,
Ag seinm ceoil
Do phócaí folmha
Translation:
I am Raftery the Poet
I am Raftery the poet,
Full of hope and love,
With eyes without light,
Calm without anguish.

Going back in my travels
With the light of my heart
Weary and tired
To the end of my journey.

Look at me now
And my back to the wall,
Playing music
To empty pocketsMike remembered this poem which he had learned in primary school and recited it for us at Dublin airport on Thursday the 27th of June, 2019, the day after our brother Liam’s funeral.

I spent 2 years as a student at St Joseph's Seminary at Lochwinnoch. Although a short period in any lifetime, I still get emotional thinking back on my time there, largely due to the influence of Mike Hyland. A giant personality, his wisdom, counsel and spirituality added to his keen sense of fun and fierce competitiveness, particularly on the football field, had a massive positive effect on me, and, I am sure, on every boy fortunate enough have been at St Joseph's when Mike held court there. It was a privelage to have known Mike and despite the passing of many years it is with great fondness I remember him.
