In loving memory of Alan Freeman who sadly passed away on 5th June 2019
Alan was Chief Planning Officer - under various different titles - for Lincolnshire County Council from July 1999 until his early retirement due to ill health in August 2013. Before that he had worked for North East Lincolnshire Council and Cleethorpes Borough Council. He began his full time planning career with South Holland District Council, Lincolnshire, in 1982.
Alan was born in Cambridge in 1958, and graduated from Coventry (Lanchester) Polytechnic with a degree in Urban and Regional Planning. Professionally, his remit covered many areas including waste management, housing strategy, conservation and the historic environment.
Alan's faith was very important to him. He was baptised at St Martin's Church, Cambridge, and later became involved in their youth fellowship group. He was property steward for Laceby Road Methodist Church when living in Grimsby, and was church warden for St Mary's Church, Welton, near Lincoln, for many years, including a long interregnum.
Alan was married to Janet, and they had one son, John, born in 1994.
