In loving memory of the late Jean Margaret Brooks who sadly passed away in her sleep unexpectedly on 24th February 2015 aged 71 years.
Much missed by daughters Rachel and Becky and her three grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, (Felicia, Lucas and Katie), her sister Dorothy and the lovely Auntie Pattie and many many more family members and friends both old and new.
Mum may have suffered physically from MS in her later years making it difficult to get around and also struggled with depression for much of her adult life, but the Jean (mum) we all loved was very much still there, just a little lost at times. Mum could be very very funny with a sharp wit (and a sharp tongue to match if you crossed her!). If mum didn't want to do something, then nothing would persuade her, she had a truly steadfast nature.
In her working life, mum always worked hard and enjoyed the social element of meeting people through work. She was well-loved by colleagues wherever she went and remained in contact with former colleagues/friends from as far back as the 70's when she was in charge of a chain of bakeries, the 80s when she worked at a plant nursery and the 90's when she worked at Boots the Chemist.
Mums passion and love for cats is well known. She has rescued so many cats over the years, there are too many to possibly remember but it runs into the many hundreds. She has saved cats from dying, removed cats that were being neglected, nursed them to health and re-homed. She also tried to educate people, about neutering or doctoring their cats, particularly the farmers in Lincolnshire. If they disagreed, she'd take the cat without the farmer knowing, drop them at the vets and then 2 days later the farmers cat would re-appear on the farm, minus some "bits". This in addition to all the cats we had as a family that were not re-homed, but kept and loved. At the start of 2015, mum had 2 cats, Poppy and Foster. Poppy sadly died in early January aged 21 years, and mum was just so heartbroken, she could not seem to accept it. This has left Foster, who has gone to live with her daughter Rachel and her husband, and their cat Jonah.
Mum loved flowers (fragrant freesias were her favourite), flower-arranging, gardening, letter-writing to friends, or letters of complaint if she saw an injustice, painting, crosswords, and spending time with her family. She was also a fantastic cake and biscuit baker, and we often came home from school to the smell of cookies or cakes. Some of the more physical activities were not possible in the last few years due to mums lack of mobility, and this frustrated her, but she did what she could and remained independent in her own home in New Brighton until the day she passed. Remaining in her own home was so very important to mum.
We all miss you.... xx
TO ALL JEAN/MUMS FRIENDS AND FAMILY PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE, A MEMORY, UPLOAD A PHOTO OR LIGHT A CANDLE. IF SHE HAS TOUCHED YOUR LIFE, PLEASE DO MAKE IT KNOWN HERE. THANK YOU - RACHEL AND BECKY X
