In loving memory of Alex Aldred who sadly passed away on 6th April 2019.
My dad was born in Ripley and lived his childhood years in Swanwick. He attended Swanwick Grammar School and afterwards started a career at the local mine with his father, where he trained as a mechanical engineer winning the apprentice of the year award in 1962.
By 1964 he had met my mother Sondra Aldred and married in the local church. 10 months later my dad was involved in a life changing accident when the mine collapsed and he spend many long months recovering in the Spinal Injuries Unit at Sheffield, which my mother visited everyday. However, this didn't define him, he learnt to swim again, earning the 1 mile badge. Turned his passion for woodwork work and gardening into an artform admired by many.
He enjoyed holidays in the Cotswolds with family and friends. Adventures into the peak district,( he loved finding new routes) picnics in the park and not to forget Fish and chips in the car.. always had to have the salt and pepper to hand.
He loved having the grandkids around, teaching them to ride their bikes, read maps, always there to encourage and advise them. He will be missed but never far from our thoughts as we remember him by the adventures we all had with him.
