Grandad,

Having to write this in itself feels weird; you always seemed so invincible. Like you’d always say ‘I hate old people’ and to me you never were. You were the best grandad ever. Forever young and never conforming to the ‘grandad’ stereotype.

You’d laugh when you shouldn’t, you’d forever be causing havoc and winding up nanny to no end... that was your humour, and I loved it. I like to think I’ve adopted some of that humour, as you never failed to make me laugh.

I was, and always will be so proud of you. Throughout my life I’ve always boasted to my friends how lucky I was to have a grandad like you; a grandad like no other. I stressed to them how full of life you were and how you were getting in fights right into your 70’s!!! Worked until you were 76!

Which is why I struggle to come to terms with the fact you’re actually gone... in my mind you were going to live forever. And I guess you will. You’ve left your mark on my heart and helped shape the person I am today; that will never fade.

The irony is I’ve always found it hard to say goodbye to you... from me making you late for work and making you stay with me until I was the last one to go into school, to now... It really is time to say goodbye, but I’ll love and remember you forever and ever. You were the best grandad In the world.

Dearest Grandad,
We have so many incredible happy memories with you. You never took life too seriously and found the funny side in most things.
As kids growing up I always remember our sleepovers at yours. They were the best. I can remember dancing with you and wearing myself out from giggling so much!! But you had so much energy?! Your smiling face is the way I will always remember you.

I remember our walks to school through Pimlico and Victoria, you would see people you knew from your days at the courthouse and tell us all your stories. Then there was that time we saw the boys fighting and you jumped in to break it up!! You never acted like any other grandad I ever knew; you were young at heart and full of life!!
Then you would take great pleasure in waving at me through the school railings and shouting my name as loudly as possible to embarrass me! Haha!

We shared so many holidays and days out all together as a family. I remember so many fun days at the beach. You loved the sunshine!!
I can remember that day we went out way to far in the dingy and it capsized. You managed to drag us back to shore despite nearly choking on your own teeth! We laughed so much after!!
Or when I got stung by a jellyfish....... I was mortified when you told me how you could stop the sting and you found it hilarious!!
No one could ever be miserable around you; it was impossible not to laugh along with you.

I feel so privileged to have had you and nanny beside us throughout our whole lives. You have taught and given us so much; things that have benefitted who we are today.
You were there with us always and we will never forget you.
Truly the most incredible grandad; thank you for being so special.
Love you always,
Daniella xxxx

Grandad,
I will always have so many happy memories of you and how you was always so happy and full of laughter. I remember tea and biscuits in bed cuddled up to you and moaning that you didn’t have your pyjama top on! I remember holidays in Cornwall being in the car with you & Nan singing along to Neil Sedaka and eating sweets from your stash. I have memories of us at the beach and in the sea splashing around and riding the waves in my rubber boat, or digging up potatoes together in the garden of where we stayed. The times we shared in your beloved garden laying in the lounger as you was busy in the greenhouse. And most of all I think about how lucky I am I got to call you my grandad and all the times we had together. You really were the best! You blessed my life immensely and I’m so glad that you’ve been there, the time we spend together is the best thing that we’ve shared.
Love you always
Nicola xxx
