In loving memory of Monica Leonard who passed away on 16th March 2019.

Born Monica Gill in York in 1930, Mum left school in 1947 and entered the Civil Service in York, subsequently working in a number of government departments in Leeds, London and Renfrewshire. In 1963 she returned to London to train as a Computer Programmer and Operator, before relocating once more to Hastings.

In 1970 she met and married John Leonard, who owned a linen business in Tenterden. They had two sons, Richard and Charles. On John's retirement they moved to Westgate-on-Sea, where she became active in the WI and East Kent Embroiderers' Guild. When her sons went to university she decided she too should study for a degree, gained from the University of Kent in 1995.

After John died she moved to Birchington-on-Sea for a number of years, and more recently moved to Ashtead in 2013, to be nearer her sons.

She leaves two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.
