George was a great friend. Always fun and funny, with a sense of adventure and spirit that was always positive. We became friends almost instantly.

His amazing stories of adventure enthralled me. I often told him, he should write a book!

My little boy (also George) adored him. If we visited the club, he would always ask if George would be there. He was always a friendly face with plans and ideas that seemed to bubble and effervesce but, always intelligent and thought through with a mind that was expansive.

This quality is rarer than you think.

A brave, fearless, intelligent, funny and worldly man. They only made one George Wheatley and I doubt his like will ever be repeated, I shall miss you old chum.

I first met George in the early 70's when he met Pippa Kendal, my best friend Peter's sister. In due course we met George on many occasions and especially when we were in England on visits from Sydney Australia where we have lived for over 40 years.
I always enjoyed George's enthusiasm for his engineering projects and more recently his determination to master the Internet and 3-D printing. We often emailed each other on matters "engineering".
George displayed a wonderful sense of humour and no trip to the UK was complete without a trip to Verwood.
George we will miss you. You were but one of a kind and your exploits and service to your country and fellow man were exemplary

John and Sally Wroe
