In loving memory of Michael Stones, who peacefully passed away at Oakhaven Hospice on 6th January 2019 aged 75. He will be immensely missed by us all.

We are extremely grateful for the incredibly high level of care Mike received up until his last moments.

Mike requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Oakhaven, as they are a voluntary organisation which very much needs donations to maintain their excellent work.

Mike touched many peoples lives, so please feel free to share memories and stories of him here.

17th January

Thank you so much for all the tributes, memories and photographs that are being shared of Mike. They are so wonderful to see at this very sad time; happy memories of a lovely and very special man.

Mike faced his devastating diagnosis with great courage, grace, and dignity. He will be missed so very much. Mike chose as his Funeral Epitaph “It's been fun” and requested colours be worn rather than black and white. We are working to live up to his Epitaph on the 24th January, tough during such sad times, but hopefully doable as he left us his brilliant Anecdotage to share, along with many other precious memories.

Love Lexi & Alex xx

Many fond memories of time spent with Mike including snooker nights, Birthday celebrations on New Years day, shooting days and, of course, chatting at the East End Arms. A very kind, gentle and generous man. God Bless you Mike xx

Mikes warm spirit and kind, generous nature filled the Chapel at Romsey yesterday. There was so much love and admiration in the room, it was truly uplifting. We shared a mixture of laughter and tears, it was a beautiful send off for a very special man.

1981…...

I vividly remember the first time I met Mike which was in the summer of 1981. We met at our then family home in Bromley, Kent. He was a cute young man, who nervously sat beside Lexi on the sofa in our living room, and asked if Lexi could come to live with him in Chiswick. They were so in love it was a joy to see.

In the home they made together in Beaulieu in 1991 I would often look at Mike's black and white family photographs, framed in his study. They were of Mike's family returning to the U.K. after many years
of Missionary work overseas. Mike was seven years old, and I wondered how such young a child coped
with such huge changes in culture and location.

Well, as we all know, he did. He married the lady he loved and together they had an adorable son, Alexander.

Mike built a most successful career in the advertising film world, and made the last of his dreams
come true when he retired to Tarks Reach.

There, as you all know, Mike was a boating man. It was playtime for him and his many friends. The pub was the local 'club' and Mike enjoyed many good evenings with his pals.

He had earned it.

I had the immense privilege of meeting Mike a few times, as a friend of Alex. They have a wonderful bond, a testament to Mike being a wonderful father, and although I would say this Alex is a son to be proud of. A kind, thoughtful and intelligent man, luckily in this case the apple didn't fall far from the tree at all. Mike always had fascinating stories to tell in such a humble way. He clearly lived life well - and that is I hope a comfort for everyone that knew him.

My love and support goes out to his family, to Alex, Lexi and Natalie and everyone else touched by this great loss.

Thank you Mike for your soft voice, your cheerful smile and your sparkling wit. Thank you for being such a dedicated father, a loving husband and someone whose incredible generosity stretched to your extended family and many friends and colleagues.

Thanks so much for the lovely photographs you took. Many of my favourite photos of my children were taken by you.

You had a unique, very positive way of looking at the world, perhaps shaped by your childhood in China and your outstanding career in films. Your stoicism served you well over the last very difficult months when you remained positive, not wanting to upset others.

I enjoyed boat race parties in Chiswick and later a trip on Adelina during Cowes week when care had to be taken not to run aground. Memories of summer days at Tark’s Reach will always stay with me.

You were so kind, sensitive and thoughtful, always a master of the understatement, never wanting any fuss. A brave ‘true grit’ Brit too. You are so sadly missed. Let’s hope that wherever you are you can go hunting, fishing, shooting or simply enjoying the breeze on a boat, enjoying the glorious dappled light that you loved so much. You are loved and appreciated by many and will never be forgotten.

Sending lots of love to you, Lexi, Alex, Natalie and your extended family and friends xxxx

I am shocked and saddened by the sad news that Mike has left us. We had years of fun both at work, on film locations and on numerous sailing adventures in Greece and the Caribbean and I have all the photographic evidence to remind me of it.
We never had a cross word and drank lots of beer. Has capacity for having a good time was endless and he'll be endlessly in my thoughts.
