With a heavy heart, it saddens me to inform you that Wilfred Hales passed away on the 29th October 2018.

He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his loving family.

He was an exceptional man, a fine example of a father and husband, and without a doubt the best grandfather his grandkids could have possibly asked for.

He was an incredibly proud man, always sharing stories of his time working down the pit. He spent the majority of his career at Langton pit, finishing his career at Bentinck. He worked as a deputy for 40 years, and loved to remind us all of the difference between a Captain and Deputy.

He loved nothing or nobody more than his one true love, Betty Hales. They got married in 1959, just missing out on the staggering 'diamond anniversary' by one year. Anything that Betty wanted, Betty received.

Wilf was very proud of his grandsons service in the RAF, which is why the money donated will be handed over the the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, something I know Wilfred would be very happy about.
