Grandad was a very clever man and could be introspective at times when there were decisions to be made. He never made rash decisions, but thought long and hard before giving advice. Grandad had a wonderful sense of humour which endeared him to everyone he came in contact with and it is a great testament to his nature that he formed so many long lasting friendships over the years. Some of you here today.

There are many memories Grandad and I have together. Some of my favourite memories is our holiday to Florida as a family. School holiday trips to the bowls club where I would sit with my packed lunch watching Grandad play with his team mates. Our shopping trips to Bluewater where he would go into Apple and want the latest technology, never mind if he knew how it worked! A Bluewater shopping trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop off at a coffee shop, Grandad loved a cup of tea, Nan would hate the constant comment of ‘I’m a little bit thirsty Pearl’. Our holiday to Turkey, where Grandad was in a rubber ring in the pool having a water fight with us, but little did anyone know Grandad couldn’t swim! And of course not forgetting our caravan holidays. These are memories I will always cherish, and hold close.

Whenever I needed help with school or work I knew that I could call him for advice. He could help solve the simple problems and was also willing to give his wisdom and advice.

The support I have received from Grandad throughout my 25 years has been truly amazing. I can’t recall a function or event of mine in which he was not there. He was always there to support and cheer me on.

People like my Grandad are one in a million. Anyone who was around Grandad knows of his generosity, work ethic, humility and selflessness.

Grandad would grab Nan round the shoulders and say ‘we want to be together’ and together they will be now.

I will miss my Grandad dearly. But I will treasure his memory forever.
