In loving memory of John Waddell who sadly passed away on 13th May 2018 at St John's Hospital, Livingston.
John had been suffering from COPD for a good number of years, and finally his tired heart had enough and he passed peacefully whilst asleep.

A loving husband married to Mary for 60 years, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa he was very family orientated and his family BBQ's were great fun, especially the burnt sausages!! He enjoyed his holidays starting with a touring caravan, where he took his family from John o'Groats to Lands End and back again, visiting many interesting and picturesque places in Scotland and England. Since his retirement he was joined by his family on many family holidays, his favourite being Disneyland Paris.

Throughout his life he had a vast variety of jobs starting off with his conscription in the Navy. After leaving the Navy he went to university to study agriculture. He then became a dairy man, a pig farmer, a bus driver, a labourer and finally a teacher. His first teaching job in 1974 was in Craigshill High School, moving to Inveralmond Community High in 1981. He loved to teach and he stayed a teacher until his retirement in 1998.

We will miss him deeply, his laughter, his generosity, his opinions, his lunches out, his love of fine wines and of course his BBQ's.

John was the most wonderful person and such a great teacher. I remember turning up to his retirement do at the torphican inn with 2 other pupils all dressed in fire brigade uniforms and performing the tamest strip to the full monty ever, (we were still all fully dressed) but the laugh we all had and the look on his face was priceless. As pupils at Inveralmond we loved Mr Waddle for his compassion, honestly and genuine interest in his pupils always trying to push us to achieve everything we were capable off. A true one of a kind who will be missed by all!

Very sorry to hear this sad news. Mr Waddell was my Geography teacher at Craigshill High in 1974/5. A great teacher and a character too. Always made classes interesting. His classes were enjoyable and fun, and not a chore like some classes could be. I’d like to extend my condolences to the family. RIP Sir.
