In loving memory of Daisy (Mary) Wood who sadly passed away on 28th March 2018
Mum was born in Decmeber 1918, a beacon of hope after the First World War. She grew up in Kingston and trained as a typist. She went to work for the Court in Kingston and worked there continuously till she retired in 1985.
She had many interests including geology and archaeology, and she loved nature and being in the countryside. She was married twice for 25 years each. Firstly to David Millar, my father. Secondly to Roger Wood who shared many interests with her and made her happy in the next part of her life. She survived another 20 years after Roger passed away in 1998. She loved to travel and visited us in Africa 6 timss as well as many far flung destinations around Europe.
She lived in Hampton for 71 years and was an active member of the congregation and the Mothers' Union at All Saints Church for all that time.
She remained active and independent as long as she possibly could and that is how we shall remember her.
Mourned by her son Paul, daughter in law Doris, and her step daughters and their partners Gillian and Roger and Janet and Roger, by the rest of her family, and by all who knew her.

Mary (the name by which we knew her) was a very special person. We always enjoyed her company, her humour, her enthusiasm for life and her interest in everyone around her. There was a particular twinkle in Mary’s eye whenever she studied the restaurant menu for the next course!

Although we did not know her during her working days, it was clear that Mary had thrived on positions of great responsibility and there was no doubt that she had a very proud and productive career to look back upon.

It was an achievement, in itself, for Mary to have lived well into her 100th year. Her fight and determination to do things on her own terms lasted until the end – but happily in peaceful and comfortable surroundings and with Paul by her side.
