Ever since we met in the first year at secondary school I knew that Alan was a good bloke and someone whose friendship I very much valued. But it was only once he started his battle with cancer that I fully appreciated his other, deeper, qualities qualities of courage, compassion and generosity of spirit. We will miss him terribly.

  • I lost contact with Alan soon after school, but I have never forgotten his generosity and friendship. We were part of a really supportive group of youngsters for whom I believe our friendships really did help us get through school. Our camping trip to Wales was legendary as was the biology field trip! Farewell Alan, I’m really sorry that we didn’t meet up again. God bless you and thanks for your friendship.

Alan was a kind, generous and sincere man and as so many other people have stated a true gentleman. He was always willing to help and support others with a witty, dry sense of humour approach.

I first met Alan at school in the early 70's but didn't get to know him until more recent years at our reunions. He was such a nice man and an inspiration to us all. Always thinking of others rather than his own issues. It has been a real pleasure meeting him again.
