In loving memory of Jayne Brown who sadly passed away on 5th December 2017. Born in Fulford, Yorkshire on March 21st 1964 to Audrey and the late Bill Mathieson. She had an older brother, the late Kevin and leaves two sisters, Anita the elder and Karen the younger along with her much loved nieces and nephews. She arrived in Epsom at around twelve years of age where she attended Rosebery Girls School until leaving to join Midland Bank, Epsom Branch. At 17, and already a popular member of the bank staff she was invited by a colleague to see a band that his friends had recommended. She went along and it was there she was to meet Keith, young love made way for a more serious relationship and they married in 1985. At this point the two families united although in reality the Browns' had embraced and loved Jayne as one of their own from day one.

Jayne was now working in the City of London, eventually alongside Keith. In 1987, they moved into their own house in North Cheam. Jayne immediately fell in love with the place and the people and it was a comfort to everyone that when her time finally came that it was there she passed. She finished work in 1989 to have her first child, a son, Sebastian Alexander and then in 1996 a beautiful daughter Victoria Jayne arrived. They were without doubt her pride and joy and made her complete. As the children grew older Jayne became a teaching assistant at Cheam Fields which she enjoyed immensely, she loved the staff and the children alike. She was such a good hearted individual with a sense of humour to match that she built friendships easily, some of which would be with her until the very end. Jayne was blessed with wonderful friends as well a close and loving family and it is fair to say that she fully deserved that friendship and the love that came her way.

In 2009, after dinner out with friends she ended up at St. Helier's Hospital and was later transferred to the Royal Marsden in Sutton. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was already stage 4 and from that day on her life was all about survival. It was a long and hard battle to that morning of December 5th 2017 but one she fought with everything she had. She didn't lose that battle she won it hands down inspiring people with her smiling face and her positive attitude.

There were good days...reaching that milestone that is 50 years old...seeing her son marry his wonderful wife, Kristen and having that ever so special first dance with her little boy... seeing Victoria, that little girl so scared of losing her Mum at 13, now grown into a confident 21 year old and sharing many nights with her in front of the TV watching their favourite TV programmes and talking about her days at work, like only Mum's and Daughter's can, spending as much time with family and friends as possible, experiencing the kindness that is St. Raphael's Hospice and the amazing work they do there ... but there were bad ones too, leaving Cheam Fields, a particular wrench at that time, especially as her last day there coincided with the very day she lost her Dad, the passing of fellow battler and friend Melissa last year, the acceptance that there was nothing more the wonderful Royal Marsden could do for her and only recently the sudden loss of her brother.

So after 53 years, 36 of them spent with Keith at her side, she now says goodbye to him and to Sebastian and Victoria she leaves them safely in the knowledge that they will take from her the spirit, the love, the bravery, the kindness, the humour and the strength to move on and continue to make their own stories in life. Jayne was special and will always be remembered.

Heaven has another angel. Auntie Jayne, you are the most courageous, brave, kind, thoughtful and inspirational person I know. Always interested in others, always giving a smile. I remember as a young girl meeting you and thinking how much you reminded me of Lady Diana. You went on to be a princess in our family. Thank you for always asking about my future son and sorry you didn’t get to meet him. One day I will tell him about you and just how amazing you were. RIP now dear Auntie Jayne…xx

Will remember fondly our many coffee and lunch dates and our chats about.... well everything and nothing! We would always laugh at the fact that we when I drove you home, we would carry on chatting for half an hour while sitting in the car outside your house. We certainly could natter. A lovely lady, taken too soon. X
