Our wonderful Mum and Gordon’s beautiful wife Marilyn suddenly passed away on Tuesday 8th August 2017 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born in Finchley on 13 July 1953. She met many friends during her childhood and enjoyed school, especially learning languages. She also attended girl guides and rangers guides, as well as Sunday school which she later went onto run.
Marilyn studied French and Education at Brighton College of Education and University of Sussex, before going on to become an infant school teacher. She loved teaching and put so much time and effort into making sure that everyone did their best and preparing activities for the whole class.
Marilyn met Gordon at 18 plus. They married on 2nd August 1980 and shared an amazing 37 years together. Marilyn and Gordon enjoyed some fantastic holidays together including to Austria, Canada, New Zealand and Switzerland. Marilyn was an amazing Mum to Claire and Jemma, always encouraging them and showing how proud she was of their achievements.
Marilyn enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She always made sure she remembered birthdays and kept in touch with everyone through cards and letters. She also took pleasure in playing badminton, gardening and baking.
Marilyn will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.
When Marilyn decided to join our family we did now know how lucky we were. She was so kind and giving and over the years gave us so many happy memories to cherish. Marilyn is and always will be missed and loved by us all.

I had the privilege of Marilyn's friendship for 36 years having met her at Gonville Primary school when we were both teaching Reception classes. We left to have our first babies within 3 months of each other and from then on shared many happy times with our growing children sharing birthdays,outings and visits to each other's homes. Marilyn was a very dear and valued friend whose graciousness, thoughtfulness and kindness l shall never forget. She loves behind a treasury of happy memories for everyone who knew her which l hope will be a source of comfort to Gordon,Claire and Jemma in the years ahead.

From an early age she would line up her dolls and teddy bears to form a class room - she always wanted to teach. This desire continued through her school life and to Sussex University where she took her teaching qualifications. And so she taught in infant schools throughout her working life, full time and more recently on a supply/part-time basis.
She had the perfect temperament for teaching - patient yet firm. As a reception and early years teacher she established sound learning and life skills for hundreds of children - a wonderful legacy.
A major attribute was her thoroughness and preparation of her lessons. She would often involve Gordon, Claire and Jemma. This commitment also flowed into her broader community activities helping to raise funds for her schools, church, etc., always creative and occupying hours of her time.
As a sister she was always quietly there in the background providing support and encouragement. She never missed an anniversary or birthday not only Diane and mine but her nephews and nieces and their children. Our grandchildren loved auntie Mimi, We will all miss her so much.

Gordon, Claire and Jemma - Auntie Elsie and Margaret want you to know you are in our thoughts as you deal with this great loss in your lives. Although most of our time with Marilyn was on the occasions when we would visit from California, she was always gracious, warm, inviting, thoughtful and a genuine lady. One of many memories when Kayla was with us as a 9 year old, Marilyn arrived armed with books and crafts for her to have while she was away from home. I will always remember that thoughtfulness and caring way about Marilyn. A huge loss for all who knew her but she leaves a
legacy of memories to treasure.

This is Alison, Marilyn, me and Linda celebrating Marilyn's 50th birthday. We shared a house together as students in Brighton in the early 70s, and stayed in touch as we embarked on our teaching careers. I shall miss Marilyn's caring friendship.

This is Marilyn helping me to celebrate my retirement with afternoon tea at Fanny's tearoom. We enjoyed many lunches and afternoon teas together. She was always such good company.
