In loving memory of Trevor Charles Palmer who sadly passed away on 6th June 2017.

Trevor was born in Stamford on 18th February 1948, the son of Ronald and Janet Palmer. Affectionately known as “Trev” or “Chebby” to his close friends and family, Trevor had three sisters, Glynis, Linda and Anne.
In his early childhood, Trev went to The Fane School in Stamford. He left school at 15 and began an apprenticeship at Mirrlees Blackstone Diesels Ltd in Stamford. He worked there for 23 years and became a skilled CNC machinist and toolmaker. When he retired in 2013, he also started his own gardening business and was very popular with all his clients.

Throughout his childhood and as a young man, Trev was always a keen sports player, regularly playing football, snooker and cricket for local teams. In later years, he particularly enjoyed nothing more than to play a round of golf with his mates at Rutland Water.

Trev met his wife, Sue Campbell, when he was 17 years old and Sue was 16. Trev and Sue started dating officially on October 20th 1965. They were married in July 1970 at Ketton Church. Their 3 children followed shortly after: Darren in 1971, Dean in 1973 and Hayley in 1978. Tragically, Trev and Sue lost their first son, Darren, in a fatal car accident in 1994. Trev was a tower of strength to Sue, Dean and Hayley during this very difficult time. Trev was delighted to finally become a Grandad to Roma in 2003. He doted on Roma, as she was his first granddaughter and helped him and Sue fill an empty space in their lives after losing Darren. More grandchildren have followed since, with Dean and Rachel’s son Indiana, who was born in 2005, and Hayley & James’ daughter, Honey, who was born in 2015. His grandchildren will all miss him dearly.

Trev was a strong, hard working, practical, hands-on family man who was also intelligent and competitive. As a father of three, he was often happiest in his shed or garage doing DIY projects and loved a spot of gardening. He was a man who liked the simple pleasures in life – particularly beer, cider and BBQs – and family get-togethers or watching a live football match on TV. Trev was fiercely competitive, even if it was just a game of Scrabble. He had an inherent ability to listen and to absorb or to offer a point of view based on quiet measured wisdom.

He was a great teacher due to his patience, whether it was teaching Hayley and Sue to drive or passing on his silky football skills to Darren and Dean. He was an avid quiz freak and amassed lots of trophies in his cabinet at home for all kinds of competitions and sports including snooker, football, sports quizzes, darts and bowls.

He loved music and his favourite band was Queen. He loved a Costa Coffee and couldn’t pass one without having a caramel latte. He loved eating Chinese takeaway food, especially the “all you can eat” buffets. He liked a power nap after a good meal and woe betide anyone that dared wake him up. He was a devoted Spurs fan ever since the age of 18. In his last few weeks in Peterborough hospital, he particularly enjoyed watching Spurs’ last match of the season on Match of the Day, when they beat Hull City 7-1.

Above all, he loved his wife Sue unconditionally.

Trev was the most considerate, loving, caring, honest husband Sue could ever wish for. They had their ups and downs like every couple does, but they always made up before the day was over. He always made Sue feel beautiful and loved.

Trev lived a happy life and only succumbed to ill health right at the very end. He was a strong, healthy handsome man. On his last day at Thorpe Hall, he assured his close family that he wasn’t frightened to die. He said he was ready to go and that he just wanted to be with his son Darren and his Mum and Dad. He was brave beyond belief but during this difficult time, he always maintained a sense of humour.
