In loving memory of Ann Digby, who sadly passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday 17th October 2016, aged 64. Ann was a much-loved wife of Peter, devoted mother to Caroline and Jonathan, and proud Grandma to Sofia and Anna-Lucia. She will be very deeply missed by all her family and friends.

Ann was born in Needham Market near Ipswich in Suffolk as an only child on 30th September 1952. Ann met Peter whilst working as Head Secretary at Mid Suffolk District Council and they were married on 31st January 1976. Three years later, they had their first child Caroline in January 1979, and their second child Jonathan in December 1980. They lived a few doors down the same road from her parents in Needham Market until Peter’s work as a town planner took them to Hampshire in 1987, and they settled in Stubbington. Ann returned to her secretarial roots, working in the main school office at Bay House School, spending her lunch breaks walking in Stanley Park or swimming at Stokes Bay.

Ann and Peter moved to Cambridgeshire in 2004 to the small village of Mepal, where she joined Ely College as a Pastoral Support Assistant. Her time at Ely College held many fond memories, particularly the Presentation Evenings, of which she was immensely proud and pleased for the students that the events went well, putting in lots of hard work in the build up to get things 'just right'. Ann was delighted to see both of her children get married, Jonathan to Karen in 2006, and Caroline to Bethryn in 2014. She was thrilled to become a Grandma to Sofia in 2012 and again to Anna-Lucia in 2014, and spent several holidays abroad and visiting or hosting both her children as often as possible.

Ann retired at Easter 2015 to care for Peter, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a devoted wife and could not have done more to look after him, even when his needs became ever more demanding. She was so pleased to be able to move back to Hampshire, to Lee-on-the-Solent, in July 2016 to be close to the seaside, to Jonathan and his young family, and to be able to reconnect with old friends. She spent many happy hours enjoying walking along the seafront at Lee and stopping for an ice-cream at the Bluebird Café with Peter before he was taken into hospital. She was able to spend lots of time with her young granddaughters in the months before she passed away, and enjoyed lots of visits from Caroline and Bethryn to her new house, helping her to do all the little jobs on her ‘to do’ lists.

Ann died unexpectedly but peacefully at home following an unknown cancer illness. She will be remembered as a family-loving, Ipswich Town FC supporting, practical, hard-working lady, with a fun sense of humour and a big, kind heart.

Please share your memories of our beloved Mum and join us for a celebration of her life at the Alverbank Hotel in Stokes Bay from 1400, after the funeral at Portchester Crematorium (South Chapel) at 1300 on Friday 4th November.

Donations: In memory of Mum's practical nature, in place of floral tributes, you will be able to make a donation to the Alzheimer's Society if you so wish, as they supported her as a carer during the difficult times looking after Dad. Please see the link to the Just Giving page on the right.

I'm so glad that the union of Jon and Karen brought our two families together and I was able to share many happy times with Ann and Peter. Ann was such a cheerful, kind, lovely person, who will be greatly missed by all of us who had the good fortune to know her.

It goes without saying that Ann was an amazing and unique person. She never made a fuss, she never complained and she always, always put other people first. At Ely College, Ann worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support the staff and students alike; she is the only person I know that can organise a formal and important event like presentation evening with military precision but without behaving like a sergeant major! I was privileged to have known Ann and worked with her. She will be greatly missed.

As our new neighbours in Lee-on-the-Solent, we wish we had had the chance to get to know Ann and Peter better. From the few times we spoke with Ann, it was quite apparent that she was a lovely lady and from reading all the wonderful messages, she was obviously a very loved person. Our thoughts are with Peter, Caroline, John and all the family. x

So many happy memories of holidays, barbecues, family times with our grandchildren. We will miss the weekly phone calls, the trips to National Trust properties, the lovely meals and G and T's we shared. Rest in peace, our dear cousin and friend.

I have many happy memories with Ann at Hawks Mill Street, Needham Market, when we were both children, including carnival week with the parade and the pram race through the High Street. Every Christmas Ann with Uncle Claude and Auntie Joyce visited our house at Whitton and lots of fun and laughter was had by everyone. Ann will be sadly missed by us all but I am sure her lovely smile will never be forgotten.

My first meeting with Ann and Peter was when we became neighbours in Needham Market. The family really enjoyed there company and friendships. They were both fun loving and caring, when they moved to Stubbingdon me and the kids went down to stay at there house a number of times, the warmth and laughter we had on those visits will never be forgotten. The food Ann cooked was truly awesome

I was very sad and upset when I heard that Ann had passed away. I will never forget the times our families spent together. My thoughts go out to the family
