In loving memory of John Robert Frederick Johnson who sadly passed away on 15th October 2016

Antoniya Georgieva wrote

My deepest sympathies go out to you Martin and your family.

I would like to share a very special moment for me that I had with Johnny and Ray was our driver at this event.
In a beautiful, bright day Johnny and Ray were taken me to Toby Carvery. At this time Ray was driving a small, red car Ford fiesta with two doors. When I got to the car I went to the door to take the back seat but Johnny just got off of the front seat and say: No, no, you are going to the front seat and I am going to the back seat. I was quite shocked because I know how is difficult to get to the back seat in a small car and also uncomfortable, especially for a man at age of ninety with a pain in his knees. On my mind were traveling thoughts about that I am 38th years old, and he is at the same age of my Grandfather, who I will never let him to folded itself on the back seat in a small car. So, I just said: No, no, Johnny, please, let me go to the back seat. He adamantly refused.
We were looking at each other in the eyes and there was not about who will win, who is healthy or not, but was about, what is the right thing for me to do when I am surrounded by true Gentlemen's. It left for me to take that lovely gesture, only. And at the next moment I was not seeing an elderly man anymore.
There was standing humble, decent, healthy man with no Age, who was giving me the right of being women and briskly almost jumped to the back seat.
He made it simple but significant.
May he rest in peace.

So sorry for the loss of John, he was like a second father to me after my own father John's brother George Frederick Manuel Johnson died 1954.
I was only 9 years old and he became a good friend and mentor, and he helped me obtain my first job at the age of 16, with Ford Motor co (Dagenham Motors)
He and I liked to play cards a lot at work, and he was always spinning a yarn, (story's).
He was very supportive of me going to the USA to work with Ford Motor co dealer chain.
I would not be the man I am today if it was not for John's support.

God bless John, and hope to meet up with him one day.
Garry Johnson

I have very fond memomories of 'Martin's Dad' (as he always was to me) from the early 1970s when I would visit Martin in Iveley Road at the weekends. A few years later when I was in my 'hippy phase' and living in Balham I met him on the street and he was astonished (or maybe appalled) by the fact that I was walking around barefoot. We couldn't have been more different (or so it seemed back then) but what I remember now - 35 years later - is the slightly mischevious twinkle he had in his eye - a trait that Martin may have inherited.

  • One of my favourite photos of Johnny, sitting in our garden. Right up until about two years ago he was able to travel on the Tube to spend the day with us. Happy days!
