In loving memory of James Andrew Balcomb who sadly passed away on 28th August 2016

Jamie Donaghy wrote

Well today is the day
So listen to all we say.
A tragedy you didn't get to live
When you had so much to give.
Always so polite and caring
Yet always one for daring.
Now we're all full of hate
Because we've lost a mate.
Some of us will never understand why
But we're all here to say goodbye.
Rest in peace my friend,
Till we meet again. Gbnf

The angels looked down from heaven one night
They searched for miles afar,
And deep within the distance
They could see a shining star.

They knew that very instant
That the star was theirs to gain,
So they took you up to heaven
Forever to remain.

Look down on us from heaven
Keep us free from hurt and pain,
You'll always be within my heart
Until we meet again.

Ey balc, wanna prawn cracker? There are so many stories that start with "remember when..?" I'm fairly certain you're the reason everyone thinks I'm scouse, years of mimicking me in what in an exaggerated scousr accent. We had our difference at times, and bloody hell we were as stubborn as each other! But that cackle, that sheer unstoppable laugh you had will stay with me forever. I never really said thank you, and now il never get chance but thank you, thank you for taking me in when I had nowhere to go, for being there for me when I was alone, for making me smile when no one else could have. Most of all thank you for showing me how utterly unique and individual a person can be. Never expected you to be gone so soon but I doubt old age would have calmed you down, you'd have been dancing round the zimmer to beastie boys. Rest easy u mad head xx

Balc, I'm so heartbroken by the news and being so far away. Thanks to you I will forever have an amazing story of the crazy adventure I took overseas all by myself to meet you face to face. After the years of yahoo messenger video chats and all the crazy stories, I'm so glad I took that chance. I will never forget you or what you meant to me. I wish I could have seen you since but, until we meet again, rest peacfully. Love you forever

To my friend Balc! I was so sad to hear the news, I still am, can't get my head round it. I have known u since I was 17, living down marsh lane. We had amazing times, lots of fun and laughter, lots of putting the world to rights. you will always be in my heart and thoughts to the end of time. You have left a legacy, and a beautiful son to the world, thank you for your friendship I will miss it more than you know.

'Have an Onion' You and I will only know what this means, it was one of the best times we had, I still laugh now. Sleep well my friend, you certainly left your mark xxx

Jamie, I wish things could have been so different, it was then not later you needed me yet I wasn't there. Wherever you are I hope you will forgive me, but yet somehow later in our lives we flashed up at different times on each other's radar. We were both so damn hard to get hold of, but when we did connect, it was so good to catch up but I never told you, it meant so much to me to listen to your ideas. Some were good, some were....... Well, not so good yet I couldn't talk you out of them.

You were and are now a free spirit, you did what you wanted to do and thankfully you had some brilliant friends to carry you through. Yet, a bit like the song, you lived your life like a candle in the wind. You have a lovely son you should be well proud of, he looks so like you; he is so well cared for and loved by his family and all friends.

I want to say so much more, I just can't find the correct words. But let there be no mistake, this is a massive tribute to you Jamie son. You didn't deserve to be taken from this weird and wonderful world so soon. We will all meet up one day, so please carry on with your fantastic drawings, carry on with the creation of your many ideas and most of all be at peace son.

Love dad. X

Well mate, things didn't end as they started but I'll never forget what a good lad you were. I won't forget the mad missions we used to go on, walking off into the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. I won't forget the random hitch hiking journey to Liverpool that spawned the band. I won't forget the high jinx we got up to in the band and especially those crazy gigs in Leeds and Newby Bridge. I won't forget winding you up by mimicking your mam and calling you Jamie in my best scouse accent. I won't forget the time I spent living with you, Tash and Jude. I won't forget you. Rest In Peace
