In loving memory of Brian George Suckling who sadly passed away on 27th August 2016
My Dad was born on the 31st March 1932, we believe he was born in Enfield but not 100% sure as Dad was adopted, sadly both his adopted parents passed away while Dad was still relatively young.
He did his national service and made it to Lance Corporal and was a REME in the Paras, also being in the army gave him his life long fear of needles after his injections left him paralysed for 6 weeks. I know he served in Germany which is where his love of German beer came from and would later lead to him meeting my Mum in a German Beer Keller down the Strand in London.
He was also a keen cyclist and used to race in his younger years and he would also cycle from Enfield to Southend, have a few beers, sleep under the pier and cycle home the next day! He also taught me to ride a bike and as a child I remember going on long bike rides with him.
He also loved VWs and the first car I can remember us having was a grey and white split screen camper van, which we went to Blackpool in and Devon and Cornwall. I also remember going to VW action as a child and many other camping trips away. Dad told me the first car he had was an original VW Beetle with the 2 small windows at the back, how I wish he had kept it! Those of you that know me will know of my love for VWs and this is where it comes from.
Dad also loved his aeroplanes and air shows and we would regularly go to Duxford, Alconbury, Mildenhall etc.. all of which he and my brother Darren loved and something they continued to do together right up until last year. Also Dad and Darren used to go gliding together over at Crowland.
My Dad was a wonderful man and I miss him every day but I know he is no longer suffering as he had been quite unwell for a while and he is now at peace and back with the love of his life Mum xxxxxx
As Dad thought all plants were dandelions, rather than flowers, we are asking for donations to the British Heart Foundation as Dad had been living with heart failure for quite a while. Thank you xx
