In loving memory of Desmond Rodrigues who sadly passed away on 27th July 2016

Dr Carl De Oliveira wrote

Just seen this lovely web tribute to you Desmond and had to add my message. You were an inspiration and great guy to look up to for what you achieved through your hard work and dedication. You always had kind words and advice to give me who was much junior to you.
I will always remember that you gave me one of the best days of my life, when I was just a teenager where you whisked me away from a boring SCOGO function and took your sis, Susan and I to the Heathrow BA flight simulators for flight training under your instruction. It completely blew me away and I relished every second of it!
May your soul rest in peace with God and I pray you are flying with the angels in Heaven now.
Will always be grateful to have known you .

Carl

This is so sad. I was just watching an item on the news about the impending demise of the last two BA Boeing 747s and for some unknown reason decided to do a web search for Desmond.

I knew Desmond at the CEGB in the 1980s. He was always laughing and joking and was great to have around. He took me up in a single engined light aircraft one day from Biggin Hill and we flew down to the south coast and back.

It was just a matter of time before he left to become the commercial pilot he was destined to be. I seem to recall he joined British Midland as was, although I believe he had been offered a job with Cathay Pacific but his girlfriend didn't want to move to Hong Kong.

Sadly I lost touch with Desmond after we went our separate ways. I'm just pleased he had such a good life even if it was snuffed out way too soon.

So sorry to see you go Des.

I feel deeply aggrieved to learn about the sudden demise of Des. He never missed giving my father and my family a visit during his short stays in Mauritius. Des was often in our conversations and thoughts but we have been unaware of this tragedy. It's today, after about two years, that we learnt about his death and we are all still under the shock. I will always miss that serene, composed and kind expressions that he never failed to give.
My deepest sympathy to the parents, wife and children.
R.I.P Des

Dearest Blanche, Ferdie, Suchi, Susan, Malcolm, Mavis, Celia, Gerry, Patrick, Jessica, Jake, Emily, Liam, Amaaya and Joshua,

I knew Desmond from BA for the last 20years and although we hardly met when things changed at work, when we met it was like no time had passed between us and we laughed and we shared our family experiences. I found out about his passing by accident from a colleague today and this has shocked and saddened me deeply. Des was always smiling, happy and warm. He would always insist we come to meet his family in India. I will miss him and so will BA miss his dynamic and enthusiasm towards the company. A huge loss.

Our heartfelt condolences to you all.
We pray for you Desmond and may the perpetual light shine upon you.
