In loving memory of Douglas Arthur Plested who sadly passed away on 3rd March 2016

Hi Doug, sorry I wasn't there to say goodbye when the time came. I just feel that now I would like to say a few words.
Twenty years ago I welcomed you into our family. We had a little joke then about the medal for bravery that I awarded you for marrying my Mother in Law.
I can truthfully say Doug that these past twenty years have passed so quickly for us all. I want to thank you for the love, respect, kindness and affection that you've shown to us all.
Thank you for giving Shirley the best twenty years of her live
Thank you for being the lovely step father to Tracey and Donna.
Thank you for finding the extra love that you found for your step grandchildren, Emma, James and Ryan. They loved you also.
Thank you for being a good mate to me and Martin.
We all enjoyed your company and the laughs we had together, especially after a few beers. One of my fondest memories was getting you into trouble with the Mother in Law when we would tempt you to have 'just one more beer ' and you were tiddly. (you didn't take much tempting I remember). It's important to laugh and we certainly had plenty with you.
I also want to thank your family Gina, Paula, Paul, Rob, Jackie, James, Andrea, Sean, Emily, Leanne, Stephen, Sophie, Katie, Lee, Craig and Carl for allowing us to share you. They, like you, have always shown us love and respect.
And finally Doug, if there is something else out there, something that is better than the loving extended family that you left behind, I can only say that no one deserves it more than you.
Together with Paul I have carried out your final wishes to the best of of my ability. I have not let you down. We miss you.
R. I. P.
Ludi.

Dear Grandad,

I will miss the way you called me darling every time that we said hi
I will miss the way you smiled at me and your free spirit eyes

I will miss the handy man inside of you building the hutch for me
I will miss the gentle touch you gave with a soft kiss on my cheek

I will miss you caring Grandad you were there for me a lot
You will always hold a place in my heart a loving treasured spot

I will miss you a lot Grandad you were simply the best
You were really one in a million a cut above the rest

I will miss the young years inside of you taking you to Go Ape
I will miss the way you yelled like Tarzan I thought it was great

I will miss you Grandad with all my heart tears will be in my eyes
I will always miss the way you called me darling with a wave goodbye

Your loving granddaughter,
Leanne

One weekend during the shooting season Dad and his brother Norman came to Wales to see us and do a bit of shooting on ours and our neighbours land (with permission). Well Dad, Norman and husband Rob had a great time going out twice a day with their guns. They were soaked to the skin! And my kitchen was chocker with wet trousers and jackets hanging and dripping in front of the 'Aga' to dry. I Laughed and told them “How many kids have I got now?”

  • Would your Dad's brother be Norman Ernest Plested ?? My Mum Mary and my Dad Norman got divorced when I was a teenager. I lost contact with him. We lived in Stubbington, Hampshire. My sister Vicky lives in Perth Australia and I now live in South Brent, Devon. My Dad used to love shooting. Karen. X

Dad you are my true hero,
My life's mentor,
You taught me everything I needed to know and more,
From fixing a car to skinning a rabbit,
Sailing a boat to brewing a beer,
Not giving up when things get real tough
Then laugh and joke when it all becomes clear.
I'll miss you always, thank you for being there.

I was so very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I have such fond memories of us all hanging out at the house in Meadcroft Close and him always having a kind word for all of us - even when there was a bunch of us invading the place! Doug truly was a lovely man. My sympathies to his family - I am very sorry for your loss.

Dad, I want to say I love you
I miss you every day,
The memories I have of you
Can never be taken away,
You will always have a special place
In my beating heart,
So every time I think of you
Its like we are never apart.
