In loving memory of Bernard Pascoe who sadly passed away on 15th February 2016

Dad was taken to Peterborough City Hospital on Friday 12th February 2016 with severe abdominal pain. He was examined and found to have what they believed was liver cancer. He was admitted to Ward A10 where he was given pain relief and received the very best of palliative care.

His health deteriorated over the weekend and dad died peacefully and with dignity at 14:45 with both of us at his bedside.

From the first moments when we moved in next door to Trish and Bernard they made us feel welcome - lending their ladder when Rachael locked herself out! And over the past nine years Bernard has always been there with a smile and a joke despite his own health problems. He has watched our family grow and our little girl used to love chatting to him and looking out the window each night at his sparkly pretty lights. We miss you Bernard and hope you are now with your beloved Trish again

From the very first moment after we moved next door to Trish and Bernard they made us feel welcome - lending a ladder to climb through the window after I locked myself out. We will really miss Bernard's cheery smile and a joke and despite his own ill health and losing his beloved Trish he remained determined to get out and about and enjoy his life. Over the past nine years he has seen our family grow and my little girl loved to stop and say hello to him and every night looks at his twinkly lights in the garden. You will be missed Bernard you have been a lovely neighbour x Rachael, Nigel, Lottie and Billy

I have only known Bernard for the last six years and in that time we became good friends. Bernard was very easy to talk to and we had many conversations about family, 'putting the world to rights' and day to day life. One of Bernard's phrases I will always remember is, ' to cut a long story short, which you know I hate doing'. Bernard was a very positive, kind hearted, generous person. Thank you Gerald for the e-mail you sent six years ago which gave me the privilege of meeting Bernard and Patricia Pascoe.

I have very fond memories of Bernard who was part of my young life often playing the part of chauffer to Miranda and me following school discos etc. and all done with stoic good humour no matter what time of night it was! He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Bernard was a good friend to me and was only too willing to help out if I needed any help or assistance. Most weeks we would go out to lunch twice a week and explore the surrounding areas for new restaurants we had never been to before, over a 3 year period we visited in excess of 70 new places all of which Bernard listed on his smartphone, along with everything else he did. Our favourite eating place was the restaurant at the Key Theatre which had both good food and lovely views. I’ll really miss the times we had together reminiscing about old times, he will be sadly missed.
Please accept my condolences to all the family.

My memories of Bernard:
Unfortunately I didn’t really get to known Bernard until after the death of his beloved wife Patricia when for a number of months I visited him most days to offer any support and encouragement that I could to help him through his loss. To help stimulate new interests through those long evenings I introduced him to technologies such as the iPad and Smartphone’s and from this was born Bernard “The Gadget man” and the start of a close friendship between the two of us.
Looking back in reflection my memories of Bernard will be of someone who had been devoted to his wife who he so loved and missed but also someone who greatly loved his children and grandchildren of whom he was so proud of and never tired of telling me all about them and what they were up to. He was such a unique character, always dressed so smartly when out and about although at times around the house he reminded me of an aging marathon runner in his skimpy shorts. He was courteous, generous to a fault, loyal to his friends, wouldn’t hesitate to help someone if he could, he had a strange obsession with wanting more and more clocks around the house. He loved his multi coloured garden lights which he had strung up all around the garden and over the years had managed to collect enough disability equipment to stock a shop. Although he suffered from diabetes he never complained to me about any disability and often said to me that he regarded himself as very lucky when compared with many others. He would spend hours reminiscing about past times and events in fact it wasn’t unusual to be with him for a couple of hours and hardly get a word in.
Over the years we shared a lot of banter, jokes, good times and some not so good times. I am missing him but I hope that he will now be back in the arms of his beloved Patricia.
Pease accept my heartfelt condolences to all the family, you can all feel very proud of your father and grandfather.
Cliff.
