John Leete (23 Nov 1947 - 7 Aug 2026)

Uncle John, we will miss you greatly. You were an annazing uncle, always interested in our lives and what we were up to. It was lovely that you were able to see your great nieces and you always asked after them and how they were doing at school. I have many fond memories of visiting you in Portsmouth, later on in Petersfield and also when you came to see me at Southampton University. People clearly had so much love for you and I’m blessed to be a part of that 😊RIP Uncle John xx

John was a remarkable man in so many ways. His kindness, wit and warmth were infectious, and an interaction with John just made your day better. He had a gift for making one feel welcome: always pleased to see you, always interested to know how you were and what was happening in your life. He wore his considerable knowledge and intelligence lightly, and would happily engage in conversation about any subject, so that time with John flew past, always interesting, and so much fun! You don't meet many people as special, generous, fabulously idiosyncratic and funny as John, or many families as wonderful as the Leetes. It was a privilege to spend time with you, John, and to call you a friend. Rest well. With love, Jude xxx

John was my only brother and both I and my wife Johanna will miss him. I particularly admired his qualities of patience, understanding and tolerance, all of which stood him in good stead in his teaching career. He was lucky to have a close and supportive family and to them we offer our sincere condolences.
