In loving memory of Oscar Henry Bevan who sadly passed away on 7th August 2026, aged 16 years.

We want the service to be a celebration of Oscar's short but amazing life, so attire, smart casual clothing, colourful and comfortable, just how Oscar knew you, no black. Flowers welcome, but donations preferred.

Oscar — A True Warrior

Oscar was a truly remarkable young man.

Kind, caring and thoughtful, he had a heart that was far bigger than his years. He was a young man with huge amounts of ambition, determination and focus. Oscar wanted to be great. He wanted to do well in life, to work hard, to build a future for himself and, one day, to achieve the dreams he had set his heart on.

But at just 12 years old, Oscar was dealt an unimaginably tough hand when he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour.

From that moment, life became a battle that no child should ever have to face.

Oscar underwent so much treatment. There were good days and there were bad days, days when things were incredibly difficult and days when there was a little more light. Yet through everything, Oscar continued to fight. He faced each challenge with an incredible strength and courage.

He carried on with a smile on his face, a positive attitude and a determination to continue.

Oscar was a true warrior.

But his illness never defined him.

Oscar loved keeping busy. He had a real talent for gardening and very definitely had green fingers. He loved nothing more than a trip to the garden centre, choosing things for the garden and helping to make the family home into a lovely place.

He was also a fantastic baker.

Oscar's star creation was his lemon drizzle cake, and if you were lucky enough to taste one of his cakes, you were very lucky indeed. But even in something as simple as baking, Oscar's thoughtfulness shone through. Knowing how much it meant to his mum, he made all of his cakes gluten free so that she could enjoy them too.

That was Oscar.

He thought about other people.

Fishing was another hobby he loved. He enjoyed going to the local lake, happily catching the smaller fish but always hoping for that special moment when a big carp took the bait. Those moments brought him real happiness.

And then there was his scooter.

Oscar loved it.

He bought it a few months before his 16th birthday, and he was so excited about the freedom it would eventually give him. He was able to get out with Dad and practise, looking forward to the day he could take his CBT, get his licence and head off on his own adventures.

Sadly, Oscar never got the chance to take that CBT.

Oscar was also a very proud West Ham United fan.

Supporting West Ham was something that brought him so much enjoyment, and having the opportunity to go to West Ham games created some very special memories for him and his family.

One of the greatest highlights was having the opportunity to meet Jarrod Bowen. For Oscar, this was a truly special moment—one that brought him so much excitement and happiness. It was another memory that those who loved him will treasure forever.

He had so many plans for the future.

He was due to go to college to study to become an electrician, with the ambition that one day he would own his own business. It was a dream he was determined to achieve.

And Oscar worked incredibly hard towards it.

Despite being on active treatment, he took all but one of his GCSEs because he wanted to give himself the best possible chance of achieving the future he had planned.

That determination says so much about the person Oscar was.

He never allowed the difficult circumstances he had been given to take away his ambition. He continued to look forward. He continued to make plans. He continued to dream.

At only 16 years old, Oscar had already shown more courage, strength and determination than many people manage in a lifetime.

If you knew Oscar, you knew what a credit he was to his family.

You knew his kindness.

You knew his caring nature.

You knew his thoughtfulness.

You knew his determination.

And you knew the smile that could brighten even the hardest of days.

Oscar made this world a better place simply by being in it.

His life was far too short, and there were so many things he should have had the chance to experience. There should have been more fishing trips, more cakes, more time in the garden, more rides on his scooter, more plans for his future, and more memories yet to be made.

There should have been the electrician's qualification.

There should have been the business he dreamed of owning.

There should have been so much more.

But although Oscar's life was tragically short, it was not without meaning.

He touched the lives of the people who knew him. He gave love, kindness and happiness to his family and those around him. He showed extraordinary courage in the face of something that no child should ever have had to endure.

Oscar will forever be remembered as a true warrior.

A loving son.

A much-loved member of his family.

A thoughtful friend.

A talented baker.

A keen fisherman.

A gardener with very green fingers.

A young man with huge dreams.

And, above all, simply Oscar.

He will remain forever in the hearts and thoughts of everyone who knew and loved him.

He will be missed more than words can ever express.

His time with us may have been far too short, but the love he gave and the memories he created will last forever.

Rest peacefully, Oscar.

You fought so hard. You were so brave.

You will never be forgotten.
