In loving memory of Robert Newton who sadly passed away on 26th June 2026.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rob, a devoted husband, much-loved father, proud serviceman, and inspirational teacher.

Rob lived a life defined by service, courage, and compassion. He served with distinction as a Royal Marine before continuing his commitment to others in the Australian Defence Force. Throughout his military career, he demonstrated quiet strength, resilience, and an unwavering sense of duty—qualities that remained with him for the rest of his life.

After leaving the military, Rob found a new calling in education. As a Geography teacher at The Petersfield School, he inspired countless young people to look beyond the classroom and embrace the world around them. Leading outdoor education, the Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and adventurous training, he gave students opportunities to discover their own resilience, confidence, and potential. He believed that some of life’s greatest lessons were learned outdoors, through challenge, teamwork, and perseverance.

Public service was at the very heart of who Rob was. Whether serving his country, guiding young people, or supporting those around him, he gave his time and energy generously. He believed in leading by example and encouraged others to push beyond what they thought possible.

Rob himself was never happier than when he was outdoors, testing his own limits. He relished the challenge of mountains, wild weather, and demanding expeditions. Being cold, wet, and standing on a windswept summit was, to him, a sign that he was truly alive.

Above all else, Rob was a loving husband and a devoted father. His family was his greatest pride and the centre of his world. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, adventure, and selfless service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Rob will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, students, and the many lives he touched. Though his journey has ended far too soon, the example he set and the memories he created will endure for generations.

“The mountains he climbed, the lives he shaped, and the love he gave will never be forgotten.”

Rob was a truly remarkable man, a loyal friend and a protector. We will always cherish our beautiful memories of raising our young families together in Port Moresby and Sydney. He was taken away far too soon. Sending all our love and strength from Australia to our dear sister Kirsten, and the boys Harry and Max. Rest in peace, mate. Lots of love, Mei, Phil, Lachie and Hannah

How lucky was I to work with Rob! We made some great memories on our CCF residentials and running a platoon together for a year was fun. I will miss your smiley face.

I can only imagine the shock and heartbreak you and your children must be feeling, losing such a loved husband and father far too soon. Sending you my heartfelt condolences and strength as you face the sad days ahead.

We felt truly blessed when you and your family moved in next door. You weren’t just neighbours, we became friends instantly- bonding over being expats and raising young families in Australia. Even when you moved to PNG and later back to UK, we stayed connected.

Rob, though your time with us was too brief, you made a lasting impact on our lives. You will be deeply missed.

Our hearts are with Kirsten and the boys. Sending all our love.

Marsha, Nick and Caeli
