In loving memory of Ted Smart who sadly passed away on 13th June 2026.

Ted was a devoted family man, proud father and grandfather, whose warmth, humour and unmistakable character left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A keen cyclist for much of his life, he embraced the freedom of the open road and remained passionate about the sport long into retirement. He was well known for his sharp wit, impeccable dress sense and the gift of making people laugh, whether they were lifelong friends or complete strangers.

Ted faced the challenges of dementia with remarkable dignity, never losing the essence of who he was. He will be remembered for his authenticity, kindness, resilience and the many happy memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I've just found out today that you've crossed the rainbow bridge.
I'll miss you.
Larkspur avenue won't be the same without you.
I'm sure you'll be cycling again now.
Until we meet again Ted

For great memories and wonderful stories. Sad to see the passing of such a brilliant character. Rest in peace Ted, though I doubt they will keep in quiet in heaven.

Ted was a constant friend in my life for sixty years. Being together as dear friends in good times and bad. A true gentleman, Smart by name and Smart by nature. Ted was dearly loved by Jean and Lorraine and will be missed dreadfully. His wit and humour never failed as well as his profound knowledge of all the good hostelries in Nottingham, where he could enjoy a pint. Resilient to the end,facing his dementia with grace and dignity, whilst still being Ted. Rest in peace. Our love always, Jean and Lorraine Pickard. Xxx

I have known Ted for many years through my friendship with his son Rowan and his love of cycling. But Ted was more than just Rowan's dad he was a friend in himself, someone I've spent time with sinking a few pints as one of is favourite pastimes. Ted was one of those people who if you saw whilst out on your bike you didn't just acknowledge him but pulled over and spent 10 minutes with him at the side of the road whilst he engaged you with one of his stories. Ted Smart a true gentleman of the road.
But its the letters within his name that best describe him;
T: tenacious in his approach to life
E: egalitarian in his belief of equality in society formed from his time in the
mining industry
D: Devoted to his family and friends

Ted Smart RIP
