Sending my condolences to Dan, John and Ruth. I have so many fond memories of interesting conversations with Eddie, sitting round the dinner table at Sue and Dan's at Xmas - good food, good company and lots of laughter x

In loving memory of Edward Thomas Prentice - 'Ted' who sadly passed away on 22nd May 2026. Husband of the late Thea Prentice, loving father of Dan, John & Ruth.
A teacher for 40 years, he met Thea at St Austells Grammar school in Cornwall where they both taught English. United by their love of language and the countryside, they married in 1964 and stayed united until Theas sad passing in 2021.
He was passionate about education, reading and social justice. He was quiet in his passion, seeking to understand the other persons perspective and draw out their understanding, which was often a very effective way of getting people to reconsider their position.
A wonderful father to his 3 children, he always made time for them and would delight in finding books for them to read, and taking Ruth, his treasured daughter on trips out.
He was a great correspondent and maintained the lost art of letter writing with friends all over the world.
He finished his teaching career at Mascalls in Paddock Wood as the head of English there. He continued his love of learning by studying languages, adding German, Spanish, Turkish and Russian to his knowledge of French as well, of course, English. He then holidayed in those countries (with the exception of Russia) to test his command of their language upon the natives.
In his last years he was wonderfully cared for in Shaws Wood Care Home, and he always welcomed vistors, especially if they came bearing chocolate.
