In Loving Memory of Joyce Widdison (née Daniels)
Who sadly passed away on 14th May 2026, aged 81, after a long illness.

Joyce was born in Nottingham to Morris and Ivy Daniels and grew up in a large, close‑knit family. She was the second of four children, with an older brother Peter, a younger brother Stuart, and a younger sister Glynis, surrounded by many relatives living nearby. She attended Trent Bridge School until the age of 15 before beginning work at the Boots factory, later moving to Players No. 2, along with several other jobs.

A change in direction led Joyce to become a bus conductress for Nottingham City Transport at the Bulwell Depot. It was there she met Kenneth, who would become her husband. Although Ken worked at the rival Trent Bridge Depot, Joyce caught his bus home a few times — and soon after, they went on their first date.

They married on 27th November 1966 and made their home on Nottingham Road, Basford.
They went on to have three children. Their first child, Michelle, sadly passed away shortly after birth. Michael was born on 15th November 1968, followed by Darren on 24th February 1971, completing their family. These were happy years, with the family living in various parts of Nottingham, including The Meadows, Sneinton, Gedling, and Bulwell.

As her children grew older, Joyce returned to work. She enjoyed her time at Daunts warehouse as an order picker and later worked in the Nottingham City Transport canteen, both as a manager and an assistant. She also served as a shop steward before retiring due to ill health.

Joyce was a well‑loved woman with a strong sense of family, loyalty, and friendship. She would help anyone in need and always stood up for herself and those she cared about. Among her Trent Bridge driver friends, she was affectionately known as “The Dragon” — a nickname given with warmth and respect. She loved family holidays and travelled all over the country, creating memories wherever she went.

Joyce adored dogs and spoiled every one of them, especially Darth the rough collie, the beloved family dog of the 1980s. In later years she became “Nana” to Kobi, Sam, and Roxy, who were equally cherished and indulged.

As her health declined, Joyce and Ken moved to Challond Court, where they made many new friends and became part of a caring community.

Joyce’s funeral will be held at Bramcote Crematorium on 15th June at 10:30am.
Afterwards, there will be a small gathering at Challond Court, in accordance with her wishes.

Any donations in lieu of flowers should be given to the British Heart Foundation

Joyce will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by the drivers who had the privilege of being served by "the dragon". Condolences to Ken and all the family.
