Dad was always very supportive of mine and pauls football but we were always late. Better to be 5 mins to late in this world than 5 mins too early in the next he would say. The 1 time i remember being early we got to the game all relaxed but everyone was already playing. We did not realise the clocks went forward the night before. That was our DAD. Xx

When I still hear someone say “What’s the matter?”, I can’t help but reply, “A man who makes mats.” It was one of Dad’s classics, that silly, effortless humour he carried with him everywhere. It’s funny how a simple line can become a thread that follows you through life.

To this day, I try to pass that same spirit on to my own kids. The laughter, the lightness, the sense that fun is something you make, not something you wait for.

His jokes, his kindness, and his way of seeing the world are still here with me. They show up in the things I say, the way I parent, and in the memories that surface when I least expect them.

Many thanks for your friendship over the years.Apart from being at school together we managed to keep in touch over the last 15 years or so through our annual reunions with a few other classmates.

Rest in peace, Ray
